Avenue C in July 2010 after Germany beat Argentina

Seeing how the Germany-Argentina World Cup final is today at 4 … thought I'd revisit this post from July 3, 2010, showing the scene on Avenue C and East Seventh Street after Germany defeated Argentina 4-0 in a quarter-final match…

As I wrote then, "Some fans watching the match at Zum Schnieder, Alphabet City Lounge, Kafana, Arcane and the Porch all converged.

A fire truck arrived... and the firefighters good-naturedly joined in the celebration, honking the truck horn and waving a German flag. And posing for photos. When a few fans jumped on top of the truck, the firefighters quickly made them get down... The entire celebration all seemed pretty harmless and went on for about 15 minutes…"

As for TODAY… these two gentleman arrived at 8 a.m. to be first in line for Zum Schneider ….

Does anyone feel like discussing where to watch the World Cup in the East Village?

[Zum Schneider on Avenue C and East 7th Street]

Anyway, as we exclusively reported first, the World Cup kicks off today when Brazil takes on Croatia in the first of the group games.

Perhaps you may be interested in one of these games (matches?) on TV. At a bar. And seemingly every place with a TV set that you wouldn't necessarily think of to watch soccer is advertising the World Cup. (Spoiler: Nicoletta.)

We're not so big on listicles around here. So in an attempt at some kind of Open Thread Thursday (and to probably annoy esquared™), anyone want to suggest, um, suggestions for World Cup viewing in a neighborhood full of bars?

Anyone?

Please no blatant shilling.

CNN will report live from Zum Schneider during the women's World Cup final

Doors opened at 1 for the championship game at 2:45 between the United States and Japan. A CNN truck in parked out front... to bring live reports during the game...

And if the U.S. team wins, then we're taking the fire truck!

Spain 1, Germany 0

Is Avenue C OK? Are the German fans being good sports?

So, what will happen on Avenue C this afternoon if Germany beats Spain?

So, it's Germany vs. Spain today in the World Cup semifinals. And, after recent Germany victories, Avenue C and Seventh Street has turned into a Celebration Zone. (Why Seventh and C? People have been watching the matches nearby at Zum Schnieder, Alphabet City Lounge, Kafana, Arcane and the Porch... and German fans have all kind of converged here afterwards...)

So! What happens today? Jumping on fire trucks was just for the Germany-Argentina quarterfinal. What if Germany wins to advance to Sunday's final vs. The Netherlands?

I was originally going to suggest some humorous things that may happen... but I don't want to give anyone any ideas.

I'll leave you with this...inside a German celebration in the middle of Avenue C last Saturday...

So anyway, as I mentioned yesterday, German fans were in a celebratory mood after beating Argentina 4-zip in the World Cup. Some fans watching the match at Zum Schnieder, Alphabet City Lounge, Kafana, Arcane and the Porch all converged. A fire truck arrived... and the firefighters good-naturedly joined in the celebration, honking the truck horn and waving a German flag. And posing for photos. When a few fans jumped on top of the truck, the firefighters quickly made them get down... The entire celebration all seemed pretty harmless and went on for about 15 minutes...

Avenue C is for...crazy German fans

The scene on Avenue C and Seventh Street around noon after Germany beat Argentina 4-0 in the World Cup....

A fire truck arrived... I thought to clear a path for traffic that was backing up... However, the truck stopped ... and joined the celebration...

The line to get into Zum Schneider this morning

For the Germany-Argentina match. Wow. Much longer than last week's line. One Zum Schneider regular said this was the longest line that she'd ever seen here, including Octoberfest...the line streches west halfway up Seventh Street.

If you're in the back of the line now, then I'd suggest you watch the match elsewhere...

Watching the World Cup on Avenue B near 13th Street.

Germany 4, England 1, Avenue C 0

A little while ago after Germany beat England 4-1 in the World Cup... German fans celebrate on Avenue C and Seventh Street after watching the match at Zum Schneider and Alphabet City Lounge....

The cops drove by and paid no mind...

You have "No Chance" of getting into Zum Schneider this morning

That was the word from a Zum Schneider waitress a little bit ago...Hundreds were on hand for England-Germany in the World Cup... Actually, she was nice about it...she told the people waiting outside the already-full Zum to go to another bar so they wouldn't miss the match...

...the line stretched around Avenue C and west on Seventh Street...
