EV Grieve is an ad-free East Village blog where you'll find local news on the real estate, restaurants and residents of the East Village NYC. Launched in December 2007.
A little while ago after Germany beat England 4-1 in the World Cup... German fans celebrate on Avenue C and Seventh Street after watching the match at Zum Schneider and Alphabet City Lounge....
Whaddaya mean "Avenue C 0"?? What a spectacular and exuberant display! And it's not like Zum Schneider is a Superdive or something. They've been positively anchoring that corner for years. I love this stuff, and this is coming from someone who used to live on that corner...
This wasn't intended as a negative reflection on Zum Schneider...They seem to handle the crowds well. Some of the fans were coming from the East Village Lounge because they couldn't get into Zum Schneider. And the fans sort of met halfway between the two in the middle of C. It didn't last all that long. Maybe 20 minutes or so? A few residents coming from church down on C weren't quite sure what to make of the crowd. I saw a woman in a wheelchair forced out into the street because she couldn't navigate the sidewalk...she cautiously made her way up C on the side of the street...
Have a story idea or tip about something happening in the East Village? Or maybe a photo? Or several photos? Or video! We'd love to hear about it. Or see it. Or something. Please go here to submit a tip.
