This week in TV shoots: 'Feud,' 'Law & Order SVU'

Crews will be out tomorrow around Avenue A, Seventh Street and elsewhere to film scenes for the second season of the FX series "Feud: Capote and the Women" ...

According to Variety, Ryan Murphy's anthology series "follows the true story of how Truman Capote (Tom Hollander) was friends with numerous members of New York high society until he published excerpts of his unfinished novel 'Answered Prayers,' with the excerpts serving as a tell-all about the city's elite."

The cast includes Demi Moore as Ann Woodward, Diane Lane as Slim Keith, Calista Flockhart as Lee Radziwill, Naomi Watts as Babe Paley, Chloë Sevigny as C. Z. Guest and Molly Ringwald as Joanne Carson. Gus Van Sant will direct all eight episodes. 

The entertaining first season of "Feud" from 2017 followed the relationship between Joan Crawford (Jessica Lange) and Bette Davis (Susan Sarandon) while filming "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?" 

Also filming! A show that needs no introduction — "Law & Order SVU" ... we spotted signs along Third Street and Avenue A...

Getting down to 'Brass Tactics' once again

Another major production is slated to film on Avenue A and some side streets early next week. 

Film notices are up now for "Brass Tactics," codename for the new Apple+ series "City on Fire." (The series is based on the book of the same name by Garth Risk Hallberg.)

"Brass Tactics" has filmed around here several times, dating back to the spring. The cast includes John Cameron Mitchell and Jemima Kirke. "City on Fire" is written and executive produced by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, whose current credits include the "Gossip Girl" reboot.

Recent TV productions along Avenue A include the aforementioned GG ... "American Horror Story" ... and "Up Here."

Film notices: Getting down to 'Brass Tactics'

You've likely seen film notices up on various avenues and side streets for an Apple+ series titled — per flyers — "Brassed Tactics," which looks to be a big production.

We've spotted flyers along Avenue A from Third Street to 10th Street... and on Second Avenue from Third Street to Houston for filming on Tuesday and Wednesday...

An ad in Backstage describes the production like this:

Roman Candle Casting is seeking talent for "Brass Tactics," a new drama from Apple TV+ set in the year 2002. Talent, aged 18–45, is wanted to portray trendy New York City types, including punks, music geeks, and more. Talent must be available in April for filming in NYC. Pay is $165–$180 per eight hours of work.

The series is "City on Fire." Here's more about it via a recent article at Variety:

The series is based on the book [ed note: which is set in the 1970s] of the same name by Garth Risk Hallberg. In "City on Fire," NYU student Samantha (Sui Wonders) is shot in Central Park on the Fourth of July, 2003. Samantha is alone; there are no witnesses and very little physical evidence. Her friends' band is playing her favorite downtown club but she leaves to meet someone, promising to return. She never does. 

As the crime against Samantha is investigated, she's revealed to be the crucial connection between a series of mysterious citywide fires, the downtown music scene, and a wealthy uptown real estate family fraying under the strain of the many secrets they keep.

Prepping for 'Black Gumball' (or 'Russian Doll' — shhhh!) on 3rd Street and Avenue B

Crews for "Black Gumball" are prepping some storefronts on Third Street and Avenue B ahead of tomorrow's shoot along here.

Expect a laundromat here too...

... and Ben's Deli on B is getting some enhancements...

Ben's at 32 Avenue B served as a pivotal location for the time-bending Netflix series "Russian Doll" and Natasha Lyonne's character. Much of that award-winning series from 2019 was filmed in the East Village.

Word is "Black Gumball" is code/the working title for season 2 of "Russian Doll." 

Gotta get up, gotta get out.

TV series shoot looking for break dancers, 1980s 'punk types'

Updated: Ah! This is apparently for season 2 of "Russian Doll."

A new scripted TV series called "Black Gumball" will be filming around the East Village over the next three days... we've seen film notices on Third Avenue for Monday (thanks Steven!) ... parts of Avenue A and side streets on Tuesday...

... and along East Houston on Wednesday...

Some of the extras casting notices have been making the rounds for scenes set in the 1980s (not sure at the moment the premise of the series) ... there's a call for break dancers:

Waldron Casting is seeking Men who can breakdance and portraying 1982 East Village types breakdancing outside of the subway. Think Michael Jackson style break dancers.

There's also a call for "80s punk types" ... and "gutter punk and grunge" ...
