New retail space available on St. Mark's Place

A new retail space is now available at 94 St. Mark's Place between Avenue A and First Avenue ... in space on the west side of the building that houses Fun City Tattoo...

Per the listing:

Space in vanilla box condition. Brick walls and wood floor. Landlord to provide C/O for retail or food. Landlord installing new storefront with large bay window. Perfect for any use. Busy 24/7 East Village block.

The space is 600 square feet with an ask of $6,800.

As far as I know, the space was previously a residence...

The retail space is also above the Under St. Mark's performance space. There were questions about the theater's status (they were on a month-to-month lease) when the building hit the market in 2011. However, Horse Trade Theater Group was able to secure a new 7-year lease then. Not sure what happens after 2018.

According to public records, the building changed hands last summer for $6.4 million. The buyer is listed as an LLC with a law office for an address.

Former Citibank branch on Avenue A hits the market

The for rent sign arrived last week at 50 Avenue A between Third Street and Fourth Street.

I was curious what this former Citibank branch would be going for... Unfortunately, the listing at the Heller Organization doesn't provide many details ... other than:

-Prime East Village Retail availability
-Retail and/or F&B uses welcome
-Very high street Retail & Restaurant traffic
-Top location for proximity to nightlife

It's deceptively large too at 4,400 square feet.

The former Chase branch on Avenue A at Second Street is looking for $49,947 a month (or $139 a square foot). That's one good reason why the space has sat empty since November 2015.

Back in July 2013, Citibank's former building neighbor, Native Bean, moved down the block to 36 Avenue A. At that time, the asking rent for the space was $9,500. Villacemita eventually took the storefront, opening in March 2015.

Citibank closed on Jan. 13.

The Empire has officially fallen: Former Biscuit shop for rent on Avenue A

A for rent sign arrived on Friday at 198 Avenue A between 12th Street and 13th Street, marking the official end of Empire Biscuit.

The quick-serve biscuiteers were only open a few days in 2016. They announced reduced hours in January 2016, and then never reopened. Empire Biscuit owner Jonathan Price promised a return in March. That same month, someone there posted a disposable plate on the front window noting that they were peelin' potatoes.

Legal documents from the landlord arrived on the front door back in the fall. According to that paperwork, the Biscuit owner was in arrears on rent and back taxes to the sum of $106,000.

Meanwhile, the for rent sign stipulates no bars or restaurants.

Empire Biscuit opened, originally 24/7, to some fanfare in the fall of 2013. Several near-by residents were turned off by their slogan — Breakfast Lunch Dinner Drunk.

Office space on St. Mark's Place back on the market and still ghost free

Back in July 2014, a unique "for lease" sign arrived for the basement office space at 92 St. Mark's Place just east of First Avenue.

Among other amenities, the sign boasted that the office had "Real see-thru windows" ... "Real walls!" ... and! "No ghosts!"

Well, the sign has returned...

And there still aren't any ghosts...

As I recall, this space was off the market for a long while after the fire on the first floor in August 2014.

For rent signage arrives at the former Sigmund Pretzel Shop space on Avenue B

Sigmund Pretzel Shop closed last October after seven years in business at 29 Avenue B between Second Street and Third Street.

Meanwhile the for rent signs have just arrived. I'm curious how outrageous what the asking rent is... unfortunately, the listing (PDF here) at ABS Partners says that info is available upon request...

As for Sigmund's, their Urbanspace Vanderbilt location lives on in Midtown ... and the popular pretzels are on the menu of several restaurants in the city and sold via carts at various locations and events.

The space for Turntable Lab, soon to move to 10th Street, is for rent

A Seventh Street resident noticed the arrival of two for rent signs from different brokers outside Turntable Lab on the block between Avenue A and First Avenue.

The resident said she was sorry to see the business closing. In this case, however, as we noted back in November, the store that sells a variety of vinyl, stereo equipment and assorted DJ gear is moving to a larger space on 10th Street.

Turntable Lab will be setting up shop at 84 E. 10th St. between Third Avenue and Fourth Avenue some time next month.

For now, Turntable Lab remains on Seventh Street. However, a listing for the space did arrive yesterday on LoopNet.

Here are the details:

Wonderful ground floor retail space in well maintained building is available for the 1st time in 15 years! PERFECT FOR RESTAURANT OR BAR. ALL USES CONSIDERED. This spaces includes a full basement and the stunning backyard is an option to be included in the lease for this space.

Amazinglocation! Pure east village commercial space for rent. Located on high traffic destination... Elvis Guesthouse space for rent at 85 Avenue A

Elvis Guesthouse reportedly wrapped up its nearly two-year run on New Year's Eve at 85 Avenue A.

The bar, located in a subterranean space between Fifth Street and Sixth Street, had featured an impressive array of DJs and live music during its time (which also annoyed a few neighbors).

According to the listing at Eastern Consolidated, the asking rent for the 1,100-square-foot space below Somtum Der is $11,500. Not to mention $275,000 in key money.

Elvis Guesthouse co-owners Zachary Mexico and Billy Jones, who operate Baby's All Right in Williamsburg, are opening a venue on Lafayette near Astor Place described as an "an indie music hall and restaurant."

Former TakeMeHome space wants you to rent it

The for rent signed finally arrived late last week at 151 Avenue A, most recently TakeMeHome Rotisserie Chicken.

The to-go shop never seemed to have it together ... shutting down for weeks at a time before resuming business. It finally closed this past summer.

To date, the listing at Winick hasn't been posted. (Most of their listings note that the rent is available upon request.)

Before TakeMeHome opened, high-profile restaurateurs Ken Friedman and April Bloomfield were vying to open a cafe here in the spring of 2014, though the CB3/SLA Liquor Licensing Committee voted to deny them a license, disappointing fans of chicken liver toast in the process.

TakeMeHome opened in November 2014. The space previously housed a San Loco.

Storefronts at 110 E. 7th St. for rent

The for rent sign showed up this past Friday at 110 E. Seventh St., the former home of Porchetta.

The 8-year-old, quick-serve restaurant, which specialized in Italian-style roast pork sandwiches and platters, closed several weeks ago here between Avenue A and First Avenue.

Co-owner Matt Lindemulder told me that he was exploring several options and was looking forward to getting Porchetta up and running as soon as possible in a new location.

And it appears that both retail spaces at the address are available, according to the listing. (The rent is available upon request.) The other space housed Salon Seven. I do not know their status at the moment.

Neither here nor there but the Winick listing has a rundown of the neighboring businesses, four of which have closed or relocated.

The landlord is listed as Jakobson Properties.

95 E. 3rd St., former home of the Edge, is for rent

The for rent signs are up now here between First Avenue and Second Avenue... can't recall seeing this broker around here before — Green Pond Real Estate (based in Clifton, N.J.) ...

We didn't spot any listing yet for the space, which is 1,300 square feet on the ground floor with another 650 square feet in the basement.

The neighborhood bar the Edge closed here in late September after 29 years in business.

Both storefronts at 111 E. 7th St. are now for rent

As we reported on Monday, the wine bar Virgola has cleared out of its home of 10 months at 122 E. Seventh St. between Avenue A and First Avenue.

The for rent signs arrived on Tuesday...

Both storefronts at the address are on the market. (Village Style moved out in late September.)

Per a listing, the asking price for each storefront is $7,500. (Each space is 1,000 square feet, plus 600 square feet in the basement.)

The address is world famous, of course, for its cameo in "The Smurfs," the quadruple-Oscar winner from 2011.

Another broker for former Chase branch on Avenue A; where the asking rent is nearly $50k a month

There are new for rent banners up at 20 Avenue A at Second Street... by our count, this marks the fourth broker to list the corner storefront since Chase closed here in November 2015.

According to the listing we spotted, the asking rent is $49,947 a month (or $139 a square foot).

Back in February, the listing via Town featured renderings showing two wine bars in this location.

The 62-unit apartment building was sold in the summer of 2014 for $26.2 million.

On the rental market: 66 E. Seventh St. and 115 Avenue A

Looking at two storefronts where "for rent" signs arrived this week....

66 E. Seventh St. between First Avenue and Second Avenue

Back in June, Barbara Feinman Millinery closed here. Feinman retired, and the shop moved a few storefronts away to No. 80. Julia Emily Knox, who started working for Feinman in 2012, is now running East Village Hats. Check them out.

As for No. 66. Here are details per the listing at Sinvin:

Description
• Charming boutique space
• Landlord will deliver as a vanilla box
• Good for any use, including food
• Located in the heart of the East Village

Neighboring Tenants Tokio 7 • East Village Cheese • Studio Duarte • Van Leeuwen Ice Cream • Via Della Pace • Elevate • Cupcake Market • Agavi Juice Bar • Luke's Lobster • Roll It Up Ice Cream • Below 7th Paper & Gifts

There's a 10-year lease available for $3,650/month.

The storefront is located in one of the buildings that Raphael Toledano's Brookhill Properties is currently unloading selling.

115 Avenue A between Seventh Street and St. Mark's Place

This space is empty again now that the Blink Fitness office moved into the new Blink Fitness that opens Tuesday at 98 Avenue A. No. 115 previously served as a sales office for Ben Shaoul's condoplex at 100 Avenue A.

The gift shop Alphabets closed here in in February 2014, merging with their (at the time) newly opened location at 64 Avenue A between Fifth Street and Fourth Street.

Per the 9300 Realty website, the 500-square-foot space (plus basement) is $6,995/Month. The listing doesn't get too specific, save for: "Across from Tompkins Square Park, next to the legendary Odessa Bar and other wonderful restaurants and stores."

The Odessa Cafe and Bar closed in August 2013 after 33 years in business.

This property is owned by Steve Croman, who was charged with 20 felonies and a civil suit accusing him of chasing low-income families out of their homes.

130 St. Mark's Place is for rent

The for rent sign arrived late last week at 130 St. Mark's Place between Avenue A and First Avenue... Via Della Pace Pizza quietly closed here back in June after less than one year in business.

Before this, Falanghina Pizza Bar gave the address a shot, but it didn't catch on either.

The previous business here was able to make it for 34 years until a substantial rent hike (as well as decline in business) helped force out Whole Earth Bakery and Kitchen in December 2012.

No word on the asking rent for the space.

Former Capital One® space now for rent on 14th and 3rd

The Capital One® on the southeast corner of Third Avenue and 14th Street closed (bank branch down!) in July with the big move a few blocks to 14th Street and Broadway.

Now this prime corner space is on the rental market. The sign just went up... and the listing at RKF isn't live yet.

Will update with the rental info once it's available.

Meanwhile, what bank kind of business do you think might take this space? (We speculated that this was one possible landing spaces for the soon-to-depart M2M.)

Restaurant space that has been a lot of things lately ready to be something else

The for rent sign recently arrived at 189 E. Third St. between Avenue A and Avenue B.

Since May 2014, the address has been home to Lumiere, Casablanca and Tut, which closed in February after just a few months in business.

Doomed location for a restaurant? It's interesting that the sign says "store for rent" and not "bar-restaurant for rent."

Former Moonstruck Eatery for rent on Avenue A

The former diner space at 167 Avenue A is now for lease.

According to the listing at Eastern Consolidated, the asking rent is $150 per square foot... and the space between 10th Street and 11th Street is 3,680 square feet... (We heard that they are offering it for $35,000 a month. For real.)

The listing also notes that one of the neighbors is Isis Seafood. WTF?

There was talk of a fish market at 171 Avenue A some years ago.

Anyway.

Moonstruck Eatery closed in July after one year of business.

Former Northern Spy space for rent on East 12th Street

Northern Spy decided to close this past February after six years of serving seasonal menu items with locally sourced ingredients.

The owners said that "2015 was a tough year and we did not manage to pull the nose up to restore the flight altitude we once enjoyed. We're hanging it up while we still have the buttons on our pants."

While we haven't spotted any for lease signs, the space at 511 E. 12th St. is on the market. The Eastern Consolidated listing notes that the rent is $6,400 for 2,000 square feet (1,000 of it is the basement). There is also an additional $225,000 in key money.

There's not much other information, other than that the address features a "fully built out restaurant" with a full liquor license. The restaurant received a full liquor license last fall. (They had been turned down for full liquor starting in 2010... and in April 2012)

On April 16-17, the space served as a pop-up burger joint for Fleishers Craft Butchery, operated by one of Northern Spy's former owners.

Backyard, Avenue C style

A new listing arrived this week for a "true" four bedroom apartment at 19 Avenue C between Second Street and Third Street.

Kind of a starter apartment. Get four friends (or more!) and split up the $4,400 monthly fee.

There are plenty of selling points, such as the "tons of closets" and "tons of light." And more! Per the listing at Streeteasy:

I have a beautiful TRUE 4 bedroom (doesn't need to be converted) DUPLEX apartment on the edge of the LES and East Village. There's a LARGE PRIVATE BACKYARD for the apt. The apt has 1 AND A HALF BATHS, hard wood floors, tons of closets, and gets tons of light/ numerous windows. There is a BACKYARD for laying out/ grilling etc.

Behold the backyard...

From this photo supplied to Streeteasy, it looks more like a concrete pit than a backyard. Wonder if you can plug any drains and fill it with water for a pool?
