San Loco on Avenue A has closed after 15 years

The sign here between East 9th Street and East 10th Street is pretty self-explanatory… the Second Avenue location remains open… Meanwhile, what will become of San Loco's full liquor license?

I prefer the one on 2nd Avenue, but I had me many chicken burritos from this location.

Oh no! Why didn't they warn us? I have been going to this San Loco since the day it opened. It will be missed. I visit the other locations from time to time, but this one is right on my way home.

Awwww, crap. My go-to taco joint for so many years, and now, just like so many other things that live only in memory, gone.

Right now I am in denial about this. When you see/hear a TV fly out a window and crash to street below you'll know I've moved on to the next stage of grief.

Thanks San Loco. Will get a pretty penny for the liquor licence.

I saw this too late. Walked nine blocks to go and get their taco loco. I've been going here since they opened.. pretty much every other week. I have seriously reached my limit. Almost every single good thing is gone. There are no other locations close to me for San Loco. I walked this far to get a taco I love but also because I would rather support them than Subway if possible. Guess that isn't working. :(

The real lousy part of this is that it doesn't appear to be part of a rent hike, just a pure business decision. Probably because a full liquor license on Avenue A has more value then one on 2nd Avenue these days. I for one don't have any desire to visit there 2nd Avenue location now.

Not all decisions are about making a quick buck from a liquor license. Avenue A has changed a great deal in the last fifteen years. There is a lot more competition as far as cheap eats go. When a place isn't a .99 slice place or a spot with $15 cocktails for some reason it just doesn't fit as well as it once did.
