While we're waiting for the full reveal at 14 2nd Ave.

Workers have dropped some of the construction netting from atop the new 10-story condoplex nearing completion on Second Avenue at Houston (adjacent to First Street Green Art Park).

There's now a teaser site for the building (which had been going by Treetops). Depending on your budget, there are two- and three-bedroom full-floor residences here at 14 Second Ave.

And the pitch:
14 Second Avenue is in the energetic heart of lower Manhattan and is moments to NYC’s best restaurants, shops and entertainment. Full-floor residences feature abundant light, rising above the surrounding green space and parks with unobstructed views of the city.
The site also has the first rendering that we've seen out in the wild...
As we've been reporting, preliminary work on the luxury building started in January 2019... with availability starting in spring 2023, per the 14 Second Ave. site.

This site had been vacant for years, last housing Irreplaceable Artifacts until its demolition by the city in July 2000. There's a lot of backstory, which the links below cover...

'Townhouse-style duplexes' now for sale at the all-new 118 E. 1st St.

Sales have commenced at 118 E. First St., the 9-story condoplex between Houston/Avenue A and First Avenue.

The scope changed a bit since we first heard of seven units coming to the new development nearly eight years ago

According to Real Estate Weekly, No. 118 is now "a collection of four townhouse-style duplexes with direct, keyed elevator access and private outdoor spaces."

And!
The building features a striking modernist façade in Jet Mist granite, and Juliet balconies with irrigated gardens adorn each residence. A sunlit staircase connects the public and private floors. Residents will enjoy virtual doorman service and dedicated storage.
Pricing starts at $5.450 million for a three-bedroom residence spanning the fourth and fifth floors.

It has only taken about four years for this to take shape — foundation work started in the spring of 2018.

The links below have more about the building that was demolished to make way for this new development. As we've pointed out, 118 E. First St. was home some years ago to Darinka, the performance space that Gary Ray opened in 1983 (RIP — 1987). Darinka's many performers through the years included house band They Might Be Giants and cabaret nights hosted by Steve Buscemi and Mark Boone Junior.

Workers finish demolition of the old retail spaces along 250 E. Houston St.; now what's next?

If you've walked by 250 E. Houston St. in recent days, then you likely noticed that workers have mostly finished removing the one-level strip of storefronts.

Demoliton started in mid-November ahead of a new mixed-used building for the property here between Avenue A and Avenue B. The demolition has been a challenge/nuisance to nearby residents — especially when jack-hammering starts at 7:30 a.m. on a holiday. There have also been dust complaints, per city records

EVG reader Jim Knapp shared this photo below of the retail spaces at the start of the demolition. The businesses in these storefronts either relocated closer to the residential building at 250 E. Houston St. (Kapri Cleaners and the FedEx Office Print & Ship Center) or closed (Dunkin'/Baskin-Robbins, Subway, Mattress Firm and China Town).
Jim also shared a time-lapse of the building demolition, which you can find on YouTube. 

As for what's next, there's a filing with the DOB for a 6-story mixed-use residential building, as we reported on Jan. 3 ... (click on the image for more detail) ...
However, sources tell us that this was just a preliminary filing to allow for the demolition ... and that the plans for the building will actually be closer to the size/scope of the adjacent 13-floor residences at 250 E. Houston St., the former Red Square that opened in 1989

For now, not much will likely happen on the empty plots.

A look at the all-new Houston Lafayette-Broadway corridor



Here we are over on East Houston at Lafayette looking west toward Broadway where two new developments are nearing completion — 300 Lafayette (picture above left) and 606 Broadway.

A 7-story boutique office building with luxury retail has risen on the former site of a BP station and the Irish pub Puck Fair. In total, the building will include 30,000 square feet of retail and 53,000 square feet of office space.

606 Broadway

A 6-story mixed-use building now stands on that sliver of space between Broadway and Crosby. The building will sport about 11,500 square feet of retail space on the first and second floors with 22,751 square feet of office space on floors three to six.

Until late 2014, the space at Broadway housed the Honest Boy fruit stand for years.

1st glass: 80 E. 10th St. shows off its floor-to-ceiling windows



Here's a look at the 10-floor condoplex shaping up over on 10th Street and Fourth Avenue... as previously noted, there will be 12 units here in the development called Eighty East Tenth, ranging from one to five bedrooms...



Prices range from $1.95 million to "wow, seriously?" (Of the 10 units listed at the Eighty East Tenth website, eight are in contract, with a fall move-in date.)

Here's a look at the final product, via designer NAVA... the rendering is not too accurate, given that there isn't a line outside Tim Ho Wan across the street...

Construction watch: 606 Broadway and 300 Lafayette

Construction is booming at two nearly side-by-side sites.

606 Broadway

A 6-story mixed-use building is going up on that sliver of space between Broadway and Crosby. Once completed, the building will have about 11,500 square feet of retail space on the first and second floors with 22,751 square feet of office space on floors three to six.

Until late 2014, the space at Broadway housed the Honest Boy fruit stand for years.

Selling Eighty East Tenth

Sales kicked off the middle of last month for 80 E. 10th St., the 10-floor condoplex at Fourth Avenue.

There are just 12 units here in the development called Eighty East Tenth, ranging from one to five bedrooms.

Of the seven units currently on the market (ranging in price from $1.95 million to $7.85 million), four of them are in contract. (This info is via Streeteasy and the Eighty website.)

Anyway, there are more photos and descriptions of the building since our last look.

Per the 80 website:

Façade

“Eighty East Tenth Street sits at the heart of a historically significant stretch of Fourth Avenue formerly known as Book Row, once the center of the rare and antique book trade in America. Inspired by this unique history, NAVA began an intensive creative process of transforming and expressing the written word into a physical pattern on the building’s façade. The resulting metal surface features a circular grid pattern of discreet concave and convex impressions which make each panel a distinct manifestation of the neighborhood's rich heritage.”







As noted before, a one-level row of businesses were on this corner, including a market and St. Marx Music, until 2007.

The storefronts sat empty for years, waiting for development. Here's the corner in 2013...



The walls of the empty building were also home to the 10th Street Free Press (aka The Scribbler), who has relocated to the wall outside Duane Reade on 10th and Third...

Starting with...

1) 198 Orchard St. at East Houston Street...



Ben Shaoul's 11-story, 94-unit building has units ranging in price from $1.075 million to $5.995 million. And there will be an Equinox Fitness center here too. Previously.

2) 32 E. First St. at Second Avenue...



A 10-story, 33-unit condoplex (with ground-floor retail) on the site of the former BP station. No pricing for the homes just yet. Previously.
