Sad, strange story.

PURE SPECULATION: Maybe people are stealing pets for the reward money?
Have you noticed how many missing pets signs there are around the neighborhood? A friend suggested that, perhaps, people were stealing pets in return for a reward...Maybe? Easy money in these difficult economic times, etc. He had no proof to back this up...He was just talking, but it was a rather chilly thought.
Stealing pets is hardly a new concept. In any event, whatever the reason for the disapperance, I hope these owners find their pets soon (if they haven't already).

24 hours...and 99 cents
In a recent post on two old signs that I like, commenter StuyTownFullofYunnies mentioned the flashing neon of the newish coffee shop on 14th Street between First Avenue and Avenue A. I knew that I had a picture of it somewhere. Like StuyTown, I love the flashing "open 24 hours" neon. Anyway, it's proof that a sign doesn't have to be 75 years old to be liked. Or something.
I also like the neon next door at the generally tacky 99-cent shop....

In which EV Grieve panics for a brief moment
Was startled the other day when I saw the ominous-from-a-distance sign hanging above Life at 1oth Street and Avenue.
Anyway, forgive me for being a little jumpy. Last time I made note of a building for sale, the business on the ground floor moved...in this case, Vasmay Lounge at 269 E. Houston St.

Keeping the spirit alive
Yesterday afternoon on Fifth Street near Avenue A. Two signs leftover from the "let them eat cake" protest from July 11.

Flier of the day
At 9th Street and Avenue C.
To be honest, this sign makes me sad. Someone wanted to start a business and they went to the trouble of making all these fliers (there are many taped up along Avenue C). And then they went and spelled the name of the company incorrectly. Unless they do mean Cinderlla's and not Cinderella's. (And I'd argue that Cinderella's isn't the best name for a cleaning business...) But I'm probably thinking way too much about all this.

Picky, picky
On that note...
So this community garden on 8th Street is open from midnight to 5 p.m.? Or noon to 5 p.m.? I always get confused.
As Wikipedia notes:
Some people assume that 12 a.m. and 12 p.m. signify noon and midnight, respectively. The confusion also comes from 12 a.m. seeming to be the next hour in the 10 a.m., 11 a.m. series, but 12.01 p.m. being just after noon. In addition, p.m. is often associated with night so 12 a.m. may seem to be midnight.
