Evelyn Drinkery has closed on Avenue C
After four years at 171 Avenue C between 10th Street and 11th Street, Evelyn Drinkery has closed.
An EVG reader shared this email that the owners of the cocktail bar sent out this past Friday...
We understand that new owners will be taking over the space. We will have more on the new tenants once we get some final confirmation.
The space was previously home to TenEleven, a space that we always liked. Never made it to the Drinkery.

The Last Hurrah: Teneleven is closing after this Saturday night
As we first reported on June 5, Teneleven, a favorite neighborhood bar on Avenue C, is closing Saturday.
And here are the plans for the final night, via Teneleven's Facebook page:
Come celebrate the final night at Teneleven Bar! Let's drink and reminisce about all the good times, debaucherous nights, amazing bands, nasty performances and crazy parties! Come celebrate all the great memories that has created our Teneleven family over the years.
A new venture called Evelyn's Drinkery will be taking over the space in August.

What's taking over the TenEleven space on Avenue C
On June 5, we reported that TenEleven would be closing at 171 Avenue C at the end of this month.
A reader left us this comment on the post:
"The new bar there will be called Evelyn Drinkery, I believe. The guys are cool and have some cool ideas."
There is a landing page for the bar with an email address ... they also created a Facebook and Twitter account ...
Via Facebook, one of the Evelyn Drinkery proprietors declined to share any information about the new bar at this time. (For instance, we were curious about the new bar name, and if it had anything to do with one of TenEleven's owners, Evelyn McCue.)
However, he did say "I can assure you and your readers that we are all well acquainted with the neighborhood and only plan on beautifying The spot."
According to Facebook, they plan to open in August.

There have been rumors that TenEleven on Avenue C between 10th Street and 11th Street will be closing some time this month. (See this tweet by East Village Eats.)
Via Matt LES_Miserable ... According to sources familiar with the bar's status, the place is "switching over" on June 30. Word is a management group that "runs some other bars" is doing some kind of lease buy-out. Apparently it is likely to become a "very different" place.
Last summer, the bar had to temporarily close while waiting for its liquor license renewal... The CB3/SLA committee refused to renewal the bar's license due to some complaints... the SLA eventually renewed TenEleven's license.
In any event, this is all too bad. As we've written, TenEleven is the kind of bar that we need more of around here ... featuring the works of local photographers and artists ... and hosting the occasional musician as well as group events... It's a solid neighborhood bar that seemingly doesn't appeal to the woo-woo pack that arrives every weekend.

Belated announcements: TenEleven has reopened
Um, sorry... I meant to note this much earlier than this. Anyway, TenEleven is back open on Avenue C... The bar had to temporarily close while waiting for its liquor license renewal... The CB3/SLA committee refused to renewal the bar's license due to some complaints last month... You can read about that here.
Anyway, the SLA renewed TenEleven's license.
Meanwhile, we're glad that a good bar has returned...

TenEleven is closed while awaiting a new liquor license
We certainly don't need any more bad bar news around here. However, on July 18, TenEleven on Avenue C near 11th Street went before the CB3/SLA committee for a license renewal "with complaint history."
And according to Eater's report, CB3 refused the renewal of "after complaints that it did not abide by stipulations they would sound proof, have security and not host promoted events or live DJs."
We don't know about any of these charges... According to the State Liquor Authority, who has the final say in these matters, TenEleven's license expired on July 31.
This message is on the bar's Facebook page: "Hey everyone! Teneleven will be closed this week as we await our liquor license renewal. Stay tuned!"
In any event, TenEleven is the kind of bar we need more of around here ... featuring the works of local photographers and artists ... and hosting the occasional musician as well as group events...

Cancer benefit for TenEleven co-owner Evelyn McCue this Thursday night
The following information is on Facebook... slightly edited for this post
For those of you who are not aware, Evelyn's cancer has returned and we have decided to have the biggest and baddest fundraiser for her so that she won't have to worry about money and bills while recovering.
The date of the fundraiser is Thursday from 7:30 on.
There will be bands - including a solo performance from Uncle Leon of Uncle Leon and the Alibi's at 8 pm and John Embree's Shit show at 9 pm ... a comedy set from Margaret Champagne as well as a panda and a clown.
We have some awesome stuff to raffle off too, including prizes from Tease and Shampoo salon, dinner for two at Porchetta, bar tabs from Doc Holliday's, Royale, Cafecito, Blue Ruin, Milano's, The Library and Nice Guy Eddie's...
PLEASE note that there will be a $10 admission at the door and all tip proceeds will be donated to the cause.
We've always liked Evelyn and TenEleven (this is the former Mickey's Blue Room space), the kind of bar we need more of around here ... featuring the works of local photographers and artists ... and hosting the occasional musician as well as group events...

Teneleven closed for remodeling: "Fret not ye lushes"
I've never written about Teneleven, 171 Avenue C between 10th Street and 11th Street. I like what they do here, using their space to showcase the work of local artists, photographers, musicians, etc. I hope that they do reopen soon, as promised.
