Big crane steels the spotlight on 1st Avenue
Large crane action to note today... this work is happening over at 75 First Ave. between Fourth Street and Fifth Street, where an 8-floor, 22-unit condoplex is in the works next door to the Rite Aid.
Workers are putting steel beams in place...
After nearly 14 months of inactivity here, worked picked up again this spring. As such, the completion date on the plywood rendering has been adjusted to summer 2020.
This slowly-developing development broke ground in September 2016.

On the avenues
Crane work is expected today on Second Avenue between Fifth Street and Sixth Street... EVG reader Daniel notes that the posted signs warn against parking on Second Avenue between "5th Ave and 6th Ave." You've been warned.

In crane news today
There is crane action happening now on Avenue B between Third Street and Fourth Street.
B is closed here for now.
There were unconfirmed reports that this was to install a new vape-smoke sign. Wrong side of the Avenue though.
Anyway! A few different views via this Live Team Coverage...
In all likelihood, per the cranewatchers on the scene, workers are dropping off, so to speak, an air conditioner or HVAC atop 43-47 Avenue B.
According to the posted sign on Avenue B, this will only take 11 hours.

Today in rooftop lap pool deliveries on 11th Street
A crane crew was out on 11th Street between Avenue B and Avenue C... delivering what appeared to be a lap pool for the rooftop of the condoplex at 643 E. 11th St. ...
Here's how Streeteasy describes the penthouse here:
This sleek and sexy 2325sf penthouse duplex is arguably the most dramatic and glamorous property the East Village has ever seen. Its one-of-a-kind layout features soaring 18 foot ceilings, private keyed elevator access, three separate terraces as well as two juliette balconies, with the outdoor space alone totalling 550sf.
And!
There are even an additional 450 square feet of FAR should one choose to add a third tier to the privately owned roof and create a triplex. Quite simply, this stunning, jawdropping showpad needs to be seen to be believed.
Looks like the showpad has another amenity.
Thanks to Peter Brownscombe for the photos!

Today's big crane action
Apparently some kind of cell tower removal/addition here on Sixth Street between Avenue A and First Avenue. Or else there's another explanation...

No, workers aren't dropping off the new Target store this morning on 14th and A
Big Crane Action is happening today on 14th Street and Avenue A... at the site of Extell Development's in-progress retail-residential plazaganza that will one day yield a Target flexible-format store.
Signs at the nearby MTA stop in Steiner East Village points to ConEd work...
Whatever! Just enjoy...

Weekend crane action with the 1st sign of Ben Shaoul's Orchard Street condoplex above ground
The crane crew has been set up on Orchard Street and East Houston ...and the steel beams are rising at Ben Shaoul's latest condoplex...
Look!
...and via the Blogger Portal...
As previously reported about 196 Orchard St., there will be 94 units — studios to three-bedroomers ... with pricing starting at just under $1 million and measuring from 555 square feet.
Shaoul's reps applied for a special permit through the city’s Board of Standards and Appeals to open a three-level Equinox (gym) in the retail space.
As BoweryBoogie noted this past week, the first floor of the proposed gym will include a reception area, lounge and juice bar with the second and third floors reserved for the usual gym stuff.
Shaoul's reps will appear before CB3's Land Use, Zoning, Public & Private Housing Committee on June 15 to discuss opening a "physical culture establishment" under the current zoning restrictions. Find more details (PDF) here.
Updated 6-5
An update on the work...
...hope the neighbors don't mind...

Transformers: Age of extinction, though not yet on Avenue A
[Photo via @Salim]
As we noted earlier in the week, there's some transformer replacement work going on in the weeks ahead (again) at the ConEd substation on Avenue A between East Fifth Street and East Sixth Street…
Anyway, we just wanted to note today's pretty big crane action… Yes!
And thanks to EVG regular Creature for this six-seconds of crane porn…

'Crane operation' to close off part of St. Mark's Place this weekend
As the signs show, St. Mark's Place between Avenue A and First Avenue will be closed off for part of the weekend … "due to a crane operation at 119 St. Mark's Place."
I didn't even know that 119 St. Mark's place was a crane hospital! (Boooooooo.)

Anyone happen to know what the workers are dropping off on the roof?

High times: New clock appears above East 13th Street and 4th Avenue
So last Saturday we spotted our old friends from Bay Crane doing something or another on the southeast corner of Fourth Avenue and East 13th Street… we took the above photo (remember: you always take photos of cranes).
And that was that. Until blogger Andrew Fine pointed out to us the arrival of an old-timey clock …
Per A Fine Blog:
It appears to be part of the re-branding of Pan Am Equities' 4000 unit apartment portfolio by Mirador Properties, which is now in charge of marketing and leasing. Mirador is overseeing the upscaling the properties with Restoration Hardware fixtures, high end appliances, and sleek lobbies. It is being branded as "True North", dedicated to combining "Old New York design" with "modern technology and amenities". Ok, whatever.
