Shepard Fairey creating a mural on 11th Street at 1st Avenue

Shepard Fairey started work today on a mural above the former Schnitz space on 11th Street at First Avenue...

The mural is his second collaboration with the L.I.S.A Project.

Back in the spring/summer of 2010, Fairey's May Day piece on the Bowery Mural wall was bombed and eventually destroyed.

Shepard Fairey in Someone to watch over me

I spotted someone cleaning up some graffiti late yesterday on Shephard Fairey's mural on Houston and the Bowery...

Meanwhile, over the weekend, an EV Grieve reader said that he or she went to the Williamsburg Hall of Music ... at the venue, there's a display of Shepard Fairey's work to coincide with his current show.

Per the reader: "Get this: the venue has a separate security guard watching over them to make sure no one fucks with them. It was bizarre."

And last night, EV Grieve reader E passed along another new addition to the mural:

Noted

With these photos, EV Grieve reader Peter notes the continued deterioration of the Shepard Fairey mural on Houston and the Bowery... As he said, "Odd that the previous mural remained so untouched whereas Mr. Fairey's mural has seemingly been under attack since day one."

Indeed.

NYC the Blog noted the latest bout of vandalism... and counted 11 holes in the mural... Said Bucky Turco of ANIMAL last week: "At this point, unless someone lights it on fire, I really don’t care what happens to Shepard Fairey’s mural..."

He's not alone.

A look at Shepard Fairey's mural Rise Above, now complete on 11th Street at 1st Avenue

Shepard Fairey's mural on 11th Street at First Avenue is complete. (He started work on Wednesday.)

The L.I.S.A. Project's Wayne Rada told DNAinfo:

[T]he goal of the undertaking is to supply some brightness and positivity for the locals wandering below — especially the children coming and going from neighboring elementary school.P.S. 19.

The mural features an image of Fairey's daughter when she was 3 years old. (She is now 11.)

Shepard Fairey's Houston-Bowery mural is illegal, maybe

The DOB slapped a Stop Work Order on the Shepard Fairey mural on Houston and the Bowery... As AnimalNY noted, there are two options: obtain the proper permits for the "small building" or tear it down.

Here's a shot of the structure on the corner before Fairey's work went up...

Anyway, as an AnimalNY commenter commented..."its funny, that means no repairs to any damage like holes or torn off panels the guy who tossed bricks at it should go back, stop work order means no repairs under threat of criminal charges. you can only do emergency work if there is danger and with approval from the DOB."

So will the mural be vandalized again in the short term?

Vandalized Shepard Fairey mural unvandalized on Houston

Yesterday, the entire blogosphere a few of us (BoweryBoogie and DNAinfo ... and me) pointed out the lastest hole in Shepard Fairey's Bowery-Houston mural...

And just like that, the Fairey Swat Team has made all the repairs...

Previously... Jeremiah discussed the ongoing vandalism issues with the mural at Houston and the Bowery... (You can read those here, here and here.)

4 years on, the Shepard Fairey mural is being chipped away on 1st Avenue and 11th Street

Thanks to the reader photos/tips about the southwest corner of First Avenue at 11th Street... where workers started removing the Shepard Fairey mural this past weekend  ... these photos are from yesterday...
This work arrived here in October 2016. Titled "Rise Above," the mural featured an image of Fairey's daughter when she was 3 years old. (She is now in her mid-teens.)

In an Instagram post, the L.I.S.A. Project, the public art charity responsible for this wall, said that "an aged building with a NW exposure and a bad pipe burst has taken its toll" on the mural these past four years.

The mural's goal was "to supply some brightness and positivity for the locals wandering below — especially the children coming and going from neighboring P.S. 19."

The L.I.S.A. Project is promising a new mural on this space.

Meanwhile, at least one reader figured the Michael Jackson mural on the other side of the Avenue might be removed first...

Shepard Fairey's mural continues to go to pieces

On Thursday, Patrick Hedlund at DNAinfo reported on the vandalized state of Shepard Fairey's mural on Houston and the Bowery... and, every day (night), the mural continues to be mauled... someone or somebody pulled more of the mural apart in the last 12 hours...

Getting a kick out of the Shepard Fairey mural

This week, Jeremiah has discussed some of the ongoing vandalism issues with Shepard Fairey's mural at Houston and the Bowery... (You can read those here, here and here.)

Now it appears someone has taken a good swift kick to the mural...

And we must have crossed paths with DNAinfo's Patrick Hedlund... who also filed a story on this.

Oh! And we didn't realize that our friend BoweryBoogie was first with this earlier today... Here's his post.

Updated: Shepard Fairey creating new mural for the Cooper Square Hotel

Following up on yesterday's post about the whitewashing of the mural on the Cooper Square Hotel... Just like that, a new mural is in progress...

We asked a Cooper employee for confirmation of the artist, but he said he didn't know... Uh-huh. Anyway, Shepard Fairey is creating this mural too.

Watch Paul Richard install his Shepard Fairey addition

We pointed out the Paul Richard addition to the Shepard Fairey mural on the Bowery and Houston the other day....

...it has since been removed/stolen...

And now a reader sent along a link to Richard installing the sign....

The Shepard Fairey mural is just a hole-y mess now

Last night (or early this morning), more of the Shepard Fairey mural on Houston and the Bowery has been ripped apart...

BoweryBoogie has been keeping tabs on the destruction here as well...

Shepard Fairey mural gets boarded up, no trespassing signs

As Jeremiah first noted this morning, the Shepard Fairey vandalism magnet on Houston and the Bowery is getting covered up... this afternoon, a worker was also putting up "no trespassing" signs...

How long before that plywood is tagged?

Going to the Shepard Fairey mural, and we're going to get married...

Oh my. In case you haven't seen this shot that Jill posted on Blah Blog Blah... On their wedding day, a couple apparently stopped to have photos taken in front of the illegal (maybe!) Shepard Fairey mural on Houston and the Bowery...

There's so much I want to know. Was this a planned stop? Or were they just motoring by in the Bride Mobile and spontaneously decided to combust stop? Or did the happy couple drive all over the city and have their photos taken in front of things, like the Kiss Mural outside Nice Guy Eddie's? (Now THAT is romantic!)

And a reader asked if this was peckerwood. Boo!

What a piece of Shepard Fairey's vandalized Deitch Wall mural is going for on eBay

As you'll recall, vandals took to the Shepard Fairey mural on Houston and the Bowery last summer... Now a tipster passes along an item up for grabs on eBay: A genuine piece of the wall... And $100 for the starting bid!

Wonder how much more of the wall will turn up now... there are plenty of pieces to sell...
