More fancy $12 cocktails coming to "the Lower East Village"

Eater brings news of Ella, the newest nightspot on the "Lower East Village," as its owners are calling the area. The bar will be at the site of the former Julep at 9 Avenue, next door to the Library.

A list of $12 specialty cocktails, such as the Plum Gin Fizz (Muddled sour plum, 2oz Gin, splash of simple syrup, splash of lemon juice, shaken in a Collins glass) will be served nightly. Bottles of beer are $7 and glasses of wine will range from $10 to $20.

"The Ella staff will fit the theme dressed in classic sexy and sophisticated 1920's attire."

Why pay $9 for your appletini when you can pay $12? Dreadful. Is this place more expensive and more 1920's than Death and Company?

My previous comment seemed to have not gone through (unless this site is becoming a commie). I don't mind paying for these drinks once in a while. Much like with drinking or everything else, it's ok as long as their done in moderation.

The price includes service, atmosphere, and the illusion that one is well-off. I think it's ok to indulge now and then. once does work hard for that money, so why not treat one's self. Weren't everyone at one point in their lives on a diet of PB&J and Ramen noodles, so that they can afford to go out to dinner, club/bar, buy that CD/DVD/book, whatever--anything to relive stress. This is no different, as long as it's in moderation. To each his/her own.
