The Trek Bicycle shop at 303 Bowery between Houston and First Street has officially closed. The retail space was said to be shutting down in September, though they remained open through 2023 to unload the remaining stock.
Door signage notes that this Trek has "joined forces" with the outpost on First Avenue in Stuy Town.
The brand arrived on the Bowery in September 2019 ... one of several outposts around the city.
Before Trek, this storefront in the retail base of Avalon Bowery Place sat empty for three-and-a-half years (the last tenant, Tatyana Boutique, left in January 2016).
The retail space next door remains for rent too... Blue & Cream decamped for Greenwich Village at the end of 2022.

Looking especially bleak for Bowery retail these days...
Heavily taxing landlords on empty storefront space would drop prices until they match demand pretty quickly. Otherwise there's no incentive for them not to just leave spaces empty and wait like Didi and Gogo for a luxury chain retailer to show up.
Now that they've joined forces with First Avenue can we call them Trekkies?
LES is moving toward an empty retail storefront oasis.

Bit of a mystery. Those storefronts have so much character and street appeal.
not shocking to say the least - avalon raised their residential rents so presumably the same for retail tenants below. blue & cream is out, trek out, and Ko - all now former tenants. wouldn't be surprised if bowery meat company shuts down next and the mexican restaurant on its way out too
