One of the most unique East Village homes sold in the summer of 2017 for $3.5 million. Now the circa-1841 space with 5 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms spread out over two floors has a $9.75 million ask, this after renovations. (Find the listing here.)

Until 2017, Gale Barrett Shrady was reportedly the owner. The cottage addition was the handiwork of her late husband, artist Henry Merwin Shrady III. She called the charming cottage a "magical little spot" that served as her son's bedroom through college.

When he first built it, Henry took me up to his "Cape Cod Cottage" clad in cedar shingles. He called it "Upuponit," a nod to the South Fork more than Cape Cod. It has little windows with 360 degree views.
Henry also told me that back in the 1820s his ancestors had a farm where Allen Street is now. He came from an old New York family.
If only I could win the NY Lottery. Manifesting this now.
Pretty stunning residence even for NY, but pretty rare for he EV. Except for the lame artwork it's very nicely designed and styled. Loved the colored tile bathrooms, original wood on the the window frames, and funky but no too crazy kitchen. The French campaign chair in the bedroom with the leather straps is killing me. I passed on buying a similar one last month. Lovely landscaping with the yellow maples on the terrace.
At $9.75 million I hope it's an elevator building.

I love everything about it except the price, LOL.
GAAAAAH what a great renovation. I am envious! I hate this feeling! I prefer to revel in my snotty superior snark about the finance dipsticks with endless money turning quirky apartments into soulless white minimalist boxes! Seriously, it's stunning.
