The city is spraying parts of Manhattan, including the East Village, starting tonight "to reduce mosquito activity and the risk of West Nile virus."
Per a release from the DOH:
Trucks will spray pesticides in sections of Manhattan beginning on Thursday, Sept. 5, between 10:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. the following morning.The Health Department will use very low concentrations of Anvil® 10+10, Duet® or MERUS® 30. The risks of pesticides applied by the Health Department for mosquito control are low for people and pets. Some people who are sensitive to spray ingredients may experience short-term eye or throat irritation, or a rash. People with respiratory conditions may also be affected.
According to the map, the city isn't spraying east of Avenue B...
Last month, officials detected West Nile in NYC for the first time in 2024.
As of Aug. 30, no positive cases were found in zip codes 10009 or 10003.

Thanks for the alert, "starting tonight" kind of makes it sound like this will be ongoing, but from the DOH release it seems it's just for one night (at least for now). If there are any weather issues it'll happen Monday night instead.
I guess the person or "team" which organized this has never been to the EV east of avenue A. You know the mostly densely pacted community garden and green spaces in all of Manhattan.
I'm really glad to hear this. Just from walking outside lately, I'm covered in mosquito bites.
I suggest people close their windows if you're in the spraying area. It's good we get warning.... but it also looks like the East Village is cut in half in this plan - east of A won't be getting sprayed yet.
What about those of whom live past Ave B? Why is our area being overlooked?
I guarantee you all those wine bar drinkers will STILL be outside on the sidewalk, loudly shout talking at each other as they sip their rosee and inhale mosquito repellent.
Are we all still alive? Did we make it?
I thought I saw an announcement for east EV spraying a week or two ago.
