2 Cooper Square decides that its in the West Village now

OK, I was not awake when I posted the item earlier about someone tagging 2 Cooper Square ...

I didn't notice that the new Cooper Square sign notes that the entrance is on West Fourth Street...



As Stedman commented, "Are we the West Village now? I didn't get the memo."

At the B Bar, a new temporary wall and opening on the Bowery

Back in August, there was some chatter about the the additional cinder blocks that went up around the B Bar on the Bowery and Fourth Street.....maybe to prevent those spying eyes from 2 Cooper from seeing in the back of the B Bar...

Now, late last week, a temporary wall went up on the bar's Bowery side...







According to the DOB, the B Bar is adding "an additional opening in existing exterior wall on Bowery."

And, rather randomly on Friday afternoon, a bathtub outside the B Bar...

Bloodsucks “Twilight” beauty Ashley Greene has signed a lease for a one-bedroom at the new 2 Cooper Square rental building, where one-bedrooms start around $4,000 per month.

Greene, who plans to share the new apartment with her dog, hasn’t moved in yet but has already been seen at the building. While our spies can’t see the future like Greene’s “Twilight” character, they’ve spotted the actress sunbathing by 2 Cooper Square’s rooftop pool with her hunky Jonas Brothers beau, Joe Jonas.

Also, the online version of the story has "bloodsucks" while the paper version has "Bloodsucking." I think I like "bloodsucks" better.

From the Copper to the Cooper

Speaking of people moving into pricy new East Village developments ... NYC the Blog first reported that people are now living inside 2 Cooper Square.

Meanwhile! The 2 Cooper website has added new visuals.... some handsome black-and-white photos (in stop-motion!) depicting a scene on the Bowery that is really open to interpretation...






I think they just gave Sak's a free Fall Coat Preview ad. (And that guy looks nothing like Javier Bardem!) Whatever! You have to admit it's better than 2 Cooper's early visuals.



So, as the 2 Cooper site shows, there are 12 units available... ranging from $3,150 for a studio to a two-bedroomer for $14,500. Here's the two bedroomer...



There's also one unit with a eastward-facing terrace for $6,050... Luckily, the new residents will not be looking down at the B Bar at "some random drunken girl puking her guts out." No matter — you'll forget all this after time in the soft-tissue therapy room inside 2 Cooper.

On Monday, Curbed noted that the DOB slapped early Bowery ruiners the B Bar with a stop-work order...the offense: the addition to the eatery's wall around the outdoor dining space.

Per Curbed:

The high-priced 2 Cooper Square tower across East 4th Street, a luxury rental rising 15 stories with a pool on top, is about to open with views directly down into the restaurant's prized courtyard.

And!

Earlier this summer more rows of cinder blocks facing East 4th Street went up in an attempt to keep prying eyes off the drinkers and diners partying under the downtown sky, even though we thought the Bowery was all about seeing and being seen these days.

Patrick Hedlund followed up on the item for DNAinfo, speaking to B Bar manager Melissa Beck. The wall, she said, is to help muffle any sound coming from the eatery's outdoor space.

She added that the owners previously removed speakers from the garden space to keep the volume down, and that the wall extension acts as a way to contain the noise with so many new families moving into the neighborhood.

"After 11 p.m., it turns more club-ish," she noted of the garden.

According to Department of Buildings records, the stop-work order remains in place due to the construction being done without a permit.

The DOB did not immediately respond request for comment about the whether the addition will have to come down.

And the B Bar manager was dismissive of Curbed's prying eyes theory from the incoming 2 Cooper residents.

"What are they going to look at?" she said. "People eating dinner, or the random drunk girl that's puking her guts out? It's not like we have a strip-tease section."

Speaking of 2 Cooper Square... we just came across the old launch party invite and early promo piece for the nearly complete residences at East Fourth Street...

Ah, the early slogan... "Be a part of New York's next Meatpacking District!" (Not to mention "Square was never so cool.")



And the party was at the B Bar... very neighborly!



Meanwhile, I'm still trying to figure out the symbolism of the accompanying artwork...Hmm, a form-fitting dress, a come-hither look. Hey, is she trying to seduce potential renters?!

But seriously, at first glance, I thought she might be holding a 2 Cooper Square cake...

2 Cooper will have retail and restaurants, probably

But of course! According to the RKF site, up to 22,764 square feet of retail/restaurant space is available. And the new tenants can take possession of the space in September, the site notes.



And if you're a floor-plan junkie, then you're in luck! There are plenty of floor plans!






The west side of the Bowery falls under CB2's jurisdiction... so they'll be the ones wrestling with another liquor license along this stretch.

Will Stable Court become a reality?

If you look at the retail plans on the RKF site for 2 Cooper Square, then you'll notice the inclusion of Stable Court...



According to the indispensable Forgotten NY,

Stable Court is one of those "only-on-maps" streets. Many maps show Stable Court on the west side of Cooper Square just north of East 4th Street.

No court is immediately apparent. But...

...a driveway alongside the brick building that harbors the Village Voice offices goes west, then north, just like the maps say Stable Court does. So, maybe Stable Court isn't just fiction after all.

Just south of Stable Court, or where it's supposed to be, stands the Old Merchant's House Museum, in which a colonial-era town house owned and occupied by the Tredwell family for centuries is maintained in the style of the 19th Century.

So will there actually be a court/street/alley here?

As you can see, there is a gap between 2 Cooper and the Kaplan Building...




And Stable Court flows into the empty lot between 2 Cooper and the Merchant House...




I'm very curious to see what becomes of this lot... and of Stable Court...

2 Cooper Square is growing up right before our eyes!

Oh, it just seems like yesterday over on Fourth Street and the Bowery...



But construction has been going on, for what, 14 months now?

Anyway! Another day, another milestone! We have more 2 Cooper branding and what may be the main doors!



...and the claw thingee that will one day provide shelter to those hitting their 20K apartments...



...though it's not an entrance for construction workers...



...oh, and temporary sidewalks!

At long last all the information that you'd ever want to know about 2 Cooper Square is now online. The luxury rental at East Fourth Street and Cooper Square comes complete with a rooftop pool and private cinema... and, based on the images on their site, the residents will be equally fabulous and hip and new Bowery-ish... like the dashing hepcat here in the long hair, sideburns, tie and collar undone after a rough day doing something fabulous, unwinding with a little take out while the GF/wife flips through a fashion magazine ... isn't life downtown so romantic?



And here's the model type resident with the perky boobs looking so intent on something while her friend in the background steals all her Paroxetine ...



Anyway, there are floor plans and shots of the rooftop pool and deck and ...





Studios start at $2,950... with the big units going for nearly $10,000. For the new kid of the block, 2 Cooper Square is looking pretty big. Can't wait for the dueling 2 Cooper-52E4 pool parties.
