The Bowery Market opens today with 5 year-round food vendors

The open-air food market that we've been writing about at 348 Bowery and Great Jones is opening today... workers were making last-minute preparations yesterday afternoon, as these photos by an EVG reader show...

The Bowery Market, which will be open year round, features five vendors. Here's more about what to expect in the 1,000-square-foot space via Zagat:

The five vendors include favorites like sandwich king Alidoro, Greenpoint's Champion Coffee, LA import The Butcher's Daughter, Chinatown Mexican hotspot Pulqueria and the return of former Sushi Dojo chef David Bouhadana with Sushi on Jones.

At Alidoro, you can expect over 20 Italian sandwiches and salads including their Fratelli D’Italia with porchetta, basil pesto, fresh mozzarella, hot spread, sweet peppers, and arugula. Butcher's Daughter will offer healthy veggie-focused options like juices, macro bowls and breakfast burritos. Head to Pulqueria for tacos and their famous Granada de Piña, a Mexican pina colada made with chili spices and pulque (fermented sap of the agave plant), served in a frozen, cored pineapple. Sushi on Jones will offer fresh nigiri sushi and Champion Coffee will offer signature drinks like Maple Cortado: milk, maple syrup and espresso in addition to classic coffee drinks.

The quick-serve kiosks will feature limited seating in the form of stools at each food stand as well as several benches on the premises.

Eater notes that this project comes courtesy of real-estate developer Scott Marano of Ozymandius Realty.

The Bowery Market's hours are daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The address has been without a full-time tenant since Downtown Auto & Tire left in April 2012. The Deth Killers of Bushwick opened a pop-up shop here in February 2014, selling their brand of jeans and motorcycle stuff for several months. There was also the Nike pop-up shop in February 2015.

There were other proposed concepts for the space, which has been on and off the market for several years. In July 2010, a group aspired to open the first New York branch of Segafredo Zanetti Espresso Café, the Italian-style coffee bar, on this spot. They went before CB2, who rejected the proposal, which included a patio with a retractable roof with soundproofing as well as sound-resistant sliding doors.

Zagat noted that "remnants of the former body shop remain including graffiti."

Rumors: 348 Bowery will house new food market

You may have noticed in recent weeks that workers have built several kiosks/stalls inside the corner lot at 348 Bowery at Great Jones...

A tipster tells us that this will soon be home to a new marketplace showcasing several quick-serve food vendors.

On Friday, BoweryBoogie wrote about Essex Street's Cabalito Pupuseria raising funds to open a food stand in an undisclosed location. Per the crowdfunding campaign: "Cabalito will make its humble traditional mark in a new food collaboration project in NoHo. This project will house six up-and-coming passionate restaurateurs of different specialties."

There are a few clues about 348 Bowery's future via the DOB website (cutting and pasting their all-cap style):

INSTALL TEMPORARY STRUCTURES - FOUR(4)EXTERIOR KIOSKS AND TWO(2)INTERIOR. THE MARKET WILL BE USED FOR PREPERATION AND COOKING OF FOOD & SALE OF DRY GOODS.

A previous DOB permit had the following:

INSTALL TEMPORARY STRUCTURES - FOUR(4)EXTERIOR KIOSKS AND TWO(2)INTERIOR. THE MARKET WILL BE USED FOR PREPERATION AND COOKING OF FOOD & SALE OF DRY GOODS. IT WILL BE ON OCTOBER 15, 2015, JANUARY 15, 2016,
MONDAY - WEDNESDAY 7AM -12AM, THURSDAY - FRIDAY 7AM - 2AM, SATURDAY 9AM - 2AM AND SUNDAY 9AM - 12AM.

Nike's Zoom City SNKRS Station ready to sell sneakers on the Bowery

[Last Wednesday via an EVG reader]

Workers arrived last Wednesday to erect a pop-up shop/stage on the Bowery at Great Jones… we took a few more photos in subsequent days…

It's all for Nike … a Zoom City SNKRS Station — one of eight Nike shops erected around the city as part of the NBA All-Star game weekend in NYC.

Here's a description of the Station via the Zoom City website:

The ultimate destination to pick up the latest in Nike sneakers. Performance and style take over at the Zoom City SNKRS Station.

Located at 348 Bowery (at Great Jones Street), the Zoom City SNKRS Station will feature exclusive Nike footwear, apparel and accessories.

The Zoom City SNKRS Station will be open tomorrow through Sunday.

Oh, and you just can't walk up here and shop — you need to make a reservation via the Zoom City website.

And maybe this is what the box will ultimately look like? (One of the 50 workers standing around said that it will be a Nike shoebox shape…)

Regardless, it's quite a production…

This corner space previously housed the Deth Killers of Bushwick pop-up shop. Before its life as a pop-up space, the corner was home of the Downtown Auto & Tire until April 2012.

Reader report: Nike building a pop-up shop on the Bowery for the NBA All-Star game

Crews are erected some kind of structure this afternoon on the Bowery at Great Jones… home of the Downtown Auto & Tire until April 2012…

A tipster said that workers are building a "Nike sneaker box" ahead of next week's NBA All-Star game in NYC…

Quite a production at the moment… No word just yet when any of this goes live…

348 Bowery on the market again

For rent signs are up again at 348 Bowery at Great Jones.

The Deth Killers of Bushwick opened a pop-up shop here in February, and have ended their tenure selling their brand of jeans and motorcycle stuff.

Kinda wish they would have left the old auto inspection sign alone…

Downtown Auto & Tire packed up and left the corner in April 2012.

And a recap of the action here: The space hit the market in May 2010 ... In July 2010, a few people were hoping to open the first New York branch of Segafredo Zanetti Espresso Café, the Italian-style coffee bar, on this spot. They went before CB2, who rejected the proposal, which included a patio with a retractable roof with soundproofing ... and sound-resistant sliding doors.
