Prime & Beyond New York now open on East 10th Street
Prime & Beyond is now open at the long-dormant space that previously housed Danal on East 10th Street between Third Avenue and Fourth Avenue. (Jeremiah first reported this coming-soon eatery back on May 17.)
One reader said that the place opened last Thursday. There's already a five-star review on Yelp that reads "Simply awesome awesome meat... the best in the city..."
Anyway, this place is apparently an offshoot of a Fort Lee, N.J.-based steakhouse, as Eater pointed out.

A note about feeding the rats on East 10th Street
EV Grieve reader Ann noticed this sign in the dirt on East 10th Street just east of Third Avenue.... As she notes," I don't know if the corn was being fed to the rats ... it also looks like it's holding the sign down. Confusing!" True!

Vigil tonight for Paul and Monica Shay on East 10th Street
Paul and Monica Shay were each shot in the head Saturday night in their Pennsylvania weekend home. Their nephew, Joseph Shay, 43, was killed in the shooting. His girlfriend, Kathryn Erdmann, 37, of Fall River, Mass., was also critically wounded. Her 2-year-old son, Gregory, was shot and killed while he slept.
Yesterday, a SWAT team killed Mark Richard Geisenheyner, who police say was responsible for the murders.

Juice Press now open on East 10th Street
We first heard the rumor back in March of a northern outpost for Juice Press ... Anyway, the second location opened on Saturday.

A tipster noted that they won't have smoothies at this location until the end of the month.

DOH temporarily closes Quintessence
Yesterday, the DOH closed Quintessence, the vegan-raw food restaurant on 10th Street between First Avenue and Avenue A. Signs point to "emergency repairs," with a reopening tomorrow.
Naturally, this didn't make the folks happy at Quintessence, where they've enjoyed A ratings from the DOH. You can read the note they left on the door for patrons:

A look inside the former Teriyaki Boy on East 10th Street
EV Grieve reader LU notes the progress today at the now-gutted former home of Teriyaki Boy, which closed last month. Meanwhile, the rumor is that a Terakawa Ramen outpost will open here.

An Urban Etiquette Stoop Sign
We spotted this Urban Etiquette Sign recently under a sidewalk shed on the tree-lined 10th Street between Second Avenue and Third Avenue (AKA, Central Village)...
Perhaps the sign worked, because we spotted this fellow taking a nap a few stoops away...

Is Terakawa Ramen opening in the former Teriyaki Boy space on East 10th Street?
Last week, we reported that Teriyaki Boy on East 10th Street had closed... Blue Glass says that workers (pictured here, on a break) have been busy renovating the space...
Meanwhile, multiple tipsters report that a Terakawa Ramen outpost will open here. They've already opened in two former Teriyaki Boy spaces around the city.

Photo play on the Scribbler's wall
The plywood along the long-dormant development on 10th Street at Fourth Avenue continues to be an ever-changing tapestry ... featuring everything from the anti-psychotherapy musings of the Scribbler to defaced Lady Gaga ads... and the latest art project, someone has placed photocopies of dozens of photos on the wall...

123's sales office moves out; Prime moving up?
On East 10th Street, it appears the 123 Third Avenue sales team has packed up and moved out of the office that opened here last July.
Before!
Now!
...taking the 123 signage with it...
Makes sense now that the 123 Third Avenue tower is like 90 percent sold. As Jeremiah pointed out recently, Prime & Beyond — a cross between "Peter Luger and Chipotle" per Zagat — is taking over the long-dormant space that previously housed Danal.
One rumor: The Prime folks downstairs will be taking over the 123 space upstairs.

Bump on 10th and B sends kids to the hospital with bruises and bloody lips
Yesterday morning, 13 school kids were injured when a school bus reportedly went over a speed bump too fast, the FDNY told DNAinfo.
The students were headed to the Ross Global Academy on East 12th Street around 8:30 a.m. The accident happened at 10th Street and Avenue B, the school's executive director, Richard Burke, told Patrick Hedlund.
He said the injuries were minor, "including bumps, bruises and bloody lips."
There isn't actually a speed bump on Avenue B at 10th Street. Still, there's a pretty decent slope with some potholes. I've been sent airborne a few times on the M8 when the driver is trying to beat the light...
In any event, the city might what to take a closer look at this intersection before it gets worse than bumps and bloody lips.

Cowgirl Cupcakes (and Burritos) now open on East 10th Street
Back in December, we noted the Cowgirl Cupcakes was taking over a storefront on East 10th Street between First Avenue and Avenue A...
EV Grieve reader Leesy reports Cowgirl opened yesterday...
While she didn't sample the food, she did go in for a look... she notes the staff is very cool and excited to be part of the neighborhood... and that the place kind of smelled like, say, San Loco ... per the menu, burritos are the first item listed... Per Leesy: "I guess it just seemed odd that a place with cupcake in the name was more like Burritos."
Anyway, everything on the menu is vegan...

Falling piece of an air conditioner prompts FDNY response
Earlier this afternoon, EV Grieve correspondent Bobby Williams noted that FDNY crews responded to a call on Avenue A and East 10th Street after reports of a falling piece of metal ... Those on the scene said that it was a piece from an air conditioner from 280 E. 10th St.
Apparently no one was struck by the object ... but firefighters weren't taking any chances after the AC accident on Second Avenue last September...
