Downed tree this afternoon on First Avenue between Second Street and Third Street — photo via EVG reader Danimal... was it a victim of today's high winds ... or a car/truck...?

Tree down on 3rd Street
At 12:30 on this windswept afternoon, this tree came down on Third Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue outside Maryhouse, where 30 minutes earlier, the organization run by the Catholic Worker was just opening for lunch...
Felton Davis of Maryhouse, who shared these photos, said: "Now everyone is asking each other: What if I had walked up a few minutes late? Or what if I had been crossing the street right next to the tree?"

The Tompkins Square Park Greenmarket is a go today
Despite the downed tree from yesterday afternoon on Seventh Street and Avenue A, the usual vendors for the Tompkins Square Park Greenmarket are here today... set up around the fallen elm — three vendors are on Seventh Street ... the rest along A...
And Steven reports that a tree crew is on the scene...

[Updated] Tree down in Tompkins Square Park
Photos by Steven
Ugh. This elm tree came down this afternoon in Tompkins Square Park on Avenue A and Seventh Street during the windswept rains... no reports of injuries, but at least one car lost its windows.
This is the latest tree to come down in the Park in recent years ... see here and here and here too.
Updated 5/8 3:30 p.m.
The city removed most of the fallen tree... at least the parts on the sidewalk and Park entrance... thanks to Steven for these photos...

Another large tree branch down in Tompkins Square Park
This tree (an elm?) splintered some time overnight in Tompkins Square Park... EVG regular Salim shared these photos this morning... this tree is on the south end of the Park along Seventh Street...
Several limbs have fallen in the Park in recent weeks — some due to storms... and some not.

Storm damage: reports of trees and limbs down; Ace Bar's curbside structure collapses
The high winds from this evening's thunderstorm KO'd a tree outside 323 E. 10th St. between Avenue A and Avenue B... coming to rest on a car in the process, as these photos from a longtime reader show...
Hard to tell from the pics, but it appears the car may have been spared serious damage... and no injuries.
Meanwhile on Avenue B at Seventh Street (thanks @theenemieslist1!) ...
From 11th Street and Second Avenue (not 12th as ID'd on the tweet)...
And on Fifth Street between Avenue A and Avenue B, the curbside structure outside Ace Bar flipped over... (thank you @tjack411) ... also no injuries reported here... The FDNY helped stack up the remains of the structure...Someone's car got WRECK'D on 12th and 2nd pic.twitter.com/Nftt1r2Os5
