This dog was found this morning in Tompkins Square Park

Per a reader:

The dog was found with a necktie as a makeshift collar and a chain as a makeshift leash. No real collar or tags.

The girl who found him asked around the dog park if anyone recognized him, but none of us did. He didn't look that old and seemed in decent shape (like he had been taken care of) so maybe he was lost vs. abandoned.

The person who found him will take him to a vet to see if there's a chip...

Updated:

The vet didn't find a chip. The dog is currently in a loving foster home.

Vivian isn't really lost

On Friday evening, several concerned readers sent along photos of flyers spotted all over the neighborhood for a missing miniature dachshund named Vivian.

Vivian is not really lost.

Turns out this is some kind of social experiment about kindness.

An EVG reader explains.

"I saw the dog tied up ... then I walked a block and saw the poster. I was like holy cow! So I called the number on the flyer and sent them photos of the dog and then went and waited with the dog. I was waiting a while and then a guy came over and said he was doing a social experiment with his friend on how people behave."

Oh!

And how did the reader behave?

"I was totally stressed out and missed an appointment, waiting with the dog who was not really lost!"

Report: Dog walker traded Sugar for PCP

East Village resident Morgan Bogle has filed a new lawsuit claiming that her dog walker traded Sugar, her Amstaff/pit bull mix, in exchange for drugs, the Post reports today.

Here's what she alleges against dog walker Tommy Doerr in court papers, as reported by the Post:

Doerr, 46, was “detained by the police who had allegedly searched him and found him in possession of a controlled substance, believed to be PCP,” Bogle claims in court papers.

She “has also been told . . . that [Doerr] ‘traded’ Sugar to some drug dealers in return for PCP or sold Sugar in order to obtain money to buy drugs,” court papers state. “Morgan believes that her best friend and beloved pet was sold by Doerr to be used in connection with dog-fighting or traded for controlled substances.”

Doerr's lawyer responded:

“I can tell you there was a drug intake [at the hospital] and it was completely negative, which proves that any allegation that he was on any kind of drugs is completely false,” attorney Mel Ginsburg told The Post.

“There’s a lot of completely false allegations being made about this case,” Ginsburg said. “Nobody’s going to fake going into the hospital. There’s no intent here.”

Also:

The dog walker has countersued Bogle, accusing her of defamation because of the “false” drug allegations. Doerr also claims a pet detective hired by Bogle treated him “in a most abusive and intimidating manner” and told Doerr he should kill himself, according to court papers.

The 4-year-old Sugar went missing on Feb. 23 under mysterious circumstances.

Doerr, who had been with Sugar for three years, previously said that he didn't remember what happened to the dog.

Report: East Village resident sues dog walker for losing Sugar

From the New York Post today:

The Manhattan man who allegedly “flipped out” last month and lost Sugar — a beloved pit bull mix who has become a social media celebrity — has been outed in court papers as Tommy Doerr, a 46-year-old East Village resident.

Devastated dog owner Morgan Bogle, 33, is suing Doerr for negligence in Manhattan Supreme Court.

She went to court against Doerr “because he refused to speak to me,” Bogle told The Post.

“I have tried to play detective for three and a half weeks, and the reality is we just don’t know” what happened to the tan-and-white, 4-year-old Sugar, said Bogle.

Bogle is seeking $15,000 damages from Doerr, as well as the return of Sugar, who went missing on Feb. 23 under mysterious circumstances.

Doerr had been Sugar’s dog walker for three years.

Reward for Sugar is now $10,000, thanks to NBA all-star David Lee

The plight of Sugar, the Amstaff/pit bull mix that went missing this past Monday, has attracted the attention of David Lee, a former Knicks star who is now with the Golden State Warriors.

Yesterday, Lee offered to double the reward for Sugar to $10,000. Lee posted this on his Instagram:

And here is an update this morning from the Find Sugar Facebook page:

We appreciate your support so much, here are a few updates on our efforts:

We are using Pets Detectives. The police are aware, on the lookout, and even have several retired NYPD officers who have volunteered their time to help us. We are procuring/reviewing any surveillance video we can get our hands on. We are checking every imaginable place, and speaking with every imaginable delivery guy, doorman, courier, street vendor, taxi driver, etc… in NYC. Thank you so much for your suggestions.

Sugar's owner, Morgan Bogle, is an East Village resident who was away on business at the time of the disappearance. Bogle told Bedford + Bowery on Wednesday that her dog-sitter of three years was "found with PCP dust on him and in him and taken by the police to Bellevue Hospital psych ward where he’s being held incoherent and not allowed any visitors."

There's also now a "FindSugarNYC" billboard on 26th Street and Seventh Avenue.

The search for Sugar, the missing East Village dog, continues

Dozens of volunteers gathered this morning on Second Avenue at East Fifth Street to help look for Sugar, the Amstaff/pit bull mix that went missing this past Monday. (Volunteers have come together several times this past week. This map shows where people have posted flyers throughout the city.)

Sugar's owner is an East Village resident. Sugar went missing while she was in London on business. Her dog walker of several years reportedly had some kind of "psychotic episode." No word on where the dog walker is now.

The story has received plenty of media coverage … on WABC 7NBC New York … and Fox 5, among others…

There are Twitter and Facebook pages now devoted to the search. There is also a $5,000 reward for her return.

[Updated] More about Sugar, the missing pit bull mix with a $5k reward

You may have seen flyers up around the neighborhood for Sugar, the 6-year-old Amstaff/pit bull mix that went missing some time on Monday.

The Post has an article today on the situation ... interviewing Sugar's owner, East Village resident Morgan Bogle.

Bogle was in London on business, leaving Sugar in the care of her dog walker of three years. Then something apparently went really wrong.

Per the article:

But the man flipped out while she was away, kicking the front door of her apartment Monday while shouting and swearing, witnesses said.

“He was screaming, ‘F–k you! Let me in the f–king house now!’ ” a witness said, adding that Sugar was nowhere in sight.

“He seemed manic . . . I told him, ‘You’re acting like a lunatic.’ He was muttering stuff, but it wasn’t coherent at all,” the witness said.

A neighbor texted Bogle, and she sent a friend to the dog walker’s apartment. The pal spotted the man hiding behind a trash can outside and “acting strange,” Bogle said.

Sugar's collar and sweater were inside Bogle's apartment... but no sign of the dog. The dog walker reportedly "had no explanation" for Sugar's whereabouts.

Bogle is offering a $5,000 reward for Sugar's return. A reader who sent us the above flyer said that Sugar is spayed and microchipped. We've heard various versions of when Sugar was last seen — either Sunday or Monday ... with one reader saying that Sugar was spotted on East 26th Street between Second Avenue and Third Avenue.

Updated 6:28 p.m.

Sugar now has Twitter and Facebook pages.

And WABC has a report here.

Updated 2-28

The reward is now $10,000. Find more details here.
