New murals for 90-year-old Best Housekeeping on Avenue A

[Click on images for more detail]

Just noting the new murals on the rolldown gates at Best Housekeeping at 17 Avenue A. (Home of the best business sign in the East Village?)

You'll likely recognize the work of East Village artist Ori Carino, who worked on these last week. Among his artwork, he created the great mural on the rolldown gate outside the Mars Bar (part of which a resident was able to save!).

As Bedford + Bowery noted last week, Best Housekeeping turns 90 this year. The family owns the building … and in an interview from July 2012, owner Fred Stern said that he hopes to have the wholesale appliance store ready for the next generation — he has six boys and one daughter.

Even more sprkl for Second Avenue

A few weeks ago, local musician-artist-folk hero Paul Kostabi added his character sprkl to the roll-down gate at Cacio e Vino, 80 Second Ave. between East Fifth Street and East Fourth Street.

On Thursday night, he started work on the gate at Ballaro across the Avenue…

The evening included a visit from producer-label owner-musician Walter Schreifels (Quicksand, Gorilla Biscuits, Youth of Today…)

Paul finished the work late last night …

… and here's a final shot via Fenton Lawless…

Paul Kostabi puts some sprkl on Second Avenue

Last night, local musician-artist-folk hero Paul Kostabi added some art — specifically his character sprkl — to the roll-down gate at 80 Second Ave.

Here's a look at it all coming together…

Welcome to the East Village — home of beer

We've been watching the ad mural for Modelo come to life on East 12th Street at Avenue A … (former home of the "Girls" mural).

Last Saturday!

A few days later!

Today!

Not sure who these folks are in the ad… People who some ad executives think live here … people who some ad executives want to drink Modelo… people who are just random people on a mural…

So long to the 'Girls' mural of East 12th Street

The mural showcasing the season premiere of "Girls" went up in the middle of last month on East 12th Street and Avenue A... outside Table 12 … And it was sorta lamely tagged a little later …

And now… a moment of silence … as EVG reader paddy523 notes… the mural is gone…

But the mural lives on happily whatever after… on our Vine account…

How long did it take before someone tagged the 'Girls' mural on East 12th Street?

12 days, give or take a day. We spotted the artists starting the mural on the weekend of Dec. 13… Could have been worse…

And we still have a few more weeks before the show's new season on HBO…

A mural grows on St. Mark's Place

And a new mural is going up on the formerly green wall here outside Foot Gear Plus on St. Mark's Place at First Avenue... it's an ad for Village Kids Footwear, which is around the corner closer to First Avenue...

...speaking of green, this addition has already been painted over...

A marriage proposal by mural on Second Street (and she said yes)

Multiple readers/tipsters sent along word yesterday about a marriage proposal on the mural on East Second Street at Avenue A... as this photo from RyanAvenueA shows...

And later, Ryan (different one!) notes that the Caitlin of the mural said yes. Hey, he's not even on his knee!

The Late Adopter has a nice shot of the mural too here.
