Desi Galli will be back open this evening on Avenue B

Several alarmed EVG readers shared the news that Desi Galli was not open last evening on Avenue B. (H/T Tyler!) Two "seized" stickers from the State of New York were on the storefront.

However, owner PriaVanda Chouhan told me in an email last night that "the problem has been resolved." The quick-serve spot selling Indian street food at 172 Avenue B between 10th Street and 11th Street will be back open later today at 5.

The sibling of the well-regarded Desi Galli on Lexington Avenue and East 27th Street opened here in April 2016.

[Updated] The State of New York seizes Brick Lane Curry House on 2nd Avenue

EVG contributor Derek Berg shares these photos this morning ... showing that State has seized the restaurant here at 99 Second Ave. between Fifth Street and Sixth Street for nonpayment of taxes ...

In March 2016, the State seized the other two Brick Curry locations in the city, in Midtown and the Upper East Side.

According to Eater, Brick Lane owner Sati Sharma owed nearly $350,000 in unpaid taxes "when combing all four of his NYC restaurants, including the locations of Brick Lane Curry House and an Italian restaurant in Midtown called Radicchio Pasta and Risotto, which has been closed since at least January [2016]."

The "vast majority" of owed cash at that time was from unpaid sales tax, per a spokesperson for the Department of Tax and Finance.

The Second Avenue location is the last of the Brick Lane empire in the city.

Brick Lane moved to Second Avenue from Sixth Street in 2014.

Updated 9/21

The tax issues have apparently been taken care of... Brick Lane is back open today...

In other gas station news: Mobil reopens on Avenue C and East Houston

The station was back in business Saturday morning after a 9-day closure … the State of New York seized the property on June 19 for nonpayment of taxes.

While the station was closed, at least one local person/blogger stood around the lot taking photos.

Speaking of this lot… back in March, Hakimian Property filed plans (waiting for approval) to erect a 9-story mixed-use building on the site. Plans call for 45 residential units and 4,550 square feet of commercial space.

The Times reported in October 2013 that construction would begin when Mobil's lease expires in two years — roughly toward the end of 2015.

State seizes Mobil station on Avenue C and Houston for nonpayment of taxes

Passersby and motorists alike were surprised to find the Mobil station on East Houston and Avenue C closed yesterday.

The orange stickers affixed to the pumps tell the story...

Nonpayment of taxes. Perhaps this is just a matter of writing a check, taking care of some paperwork, etc.

Or maybe this is it for the station.

The State seizes Fares Deli on Avenue A

Bobby Williams passes along word this afternoon that the State has seized Fares Deli on Avenue A for "non payment of taxes."

Perhaps this is all temporary, as we saw in February with Avenue A Wine & Liquor ... Or maybe this is the second deli to close on Avenue A this year...

Marshal seizes Cafe Amore on East 14th Street

Per the paperwork on the front door, the Marshal has seized Cafe Amore, which seems to be advertising for a new cashier every other week ... the paperwork is dated from Friday... and we have a feeling that we haven't seen the last of this Union Square pizzeria ....

East Village moviegoers are warned that 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part I' may cause seizures

Spotted at the AMC Loews Village 7 on Third Avenue at 11th Street. (Backstory here.)

In addition, Loews management said that if you stare at the building long enough, you will see a chimpanzee. Turns out to be true...
