Max Fish latest nightlife institution to close

Eater has the story. Blame high rents and skyrocketing property taxes... and CB3.

[Updated. The rumors are true, reports AnimalNY. End of January she goes.]

Good god, I think I've commented on all your posts today. The bad news just keeps pouring in...

I'm sure there will be plenty of other places to buy $7 beers if they close.

"those piece of shit high-rises wouldn't be there if it wasn't for this place"
can you elaborate on this? Are you saying Max Fish helped initiate the wave of gentrification that made the area safe?

Wow, this would be tragic. Were there any other bars on Ludlow before Max Fish? I recall Ludlow Street Cafe across the street but I think that happend after Max Fish and the rest of the block being a lot of Hisidic business',

As I recall there is not one beer there for $7, and that's neither here nor there. I think the most expensive beer is $5. Anyway, if what I was saying wasn't clear you're a fucking idiot. Keep it up with the semantics trying to "catch" me about gentrification or whatever wordy bullshit you're saying.

SERIOUSLY? Aces and Eights and Sin Sin are blights upon the hood that need to be run out on rails but MAX FISH is closing and people are seriously upset!??!?

Good riddance. The place attracts the worst offenders when it comes to screaming and vomiting in the streets.

Good question Sarah,
What is the difference between A&8 and Max Fish?

I love Max Fish, and have never been to A&8. But if pressed, I dont know if I could explain why the closure of one is mourned, and the other celebrated.

Is it just nostalgia? I guess thats fair.

Anonymous decided to speak eloquently as such:"Anyway, if what I was saying wasn't clear you're a fucking idiot"

I'm not sure what I said that warranted this personal attack, obviously you won't explaining how Max Fish is responsible for "those piece of shit high-rise" as you assert, obviously you are incapable of replying to a simple question. Or maybe you can't explain yourself, you just spit out stupid crap and then call people names anonymously!
So what if I was off by a dollar in my cost estimate of $7 - unless you don't tip your bartender when you buy a beer which certainly seems possible. It's just a stupid bar full of stupid people subsidizing the police state with its legal taxed drugs. And is not even in the East Village. Its LES.

I won't miss this place. It's as bad as the new bars opening up. Why the double standard?

How is it as bad as, say, Billy Hurricane's? I haven't been to Max Fish in awhile. Did they now have the NFL package, waitresses slinging tequila shots and 72- ounce plastic tubes of beer like Billy Hurricane's?
