And if you left your car on Avenue B from, say, East Fourth Street on up ... your car is likely being towed...

Could they possibly find a more inconvenient time to do loud construction than when people are trying to sleep ?
any word on when they'll be paving? its a pain that they leave streets with bike lanes milled for so long.
I haven't heard any dates for the paving, anon...

Work crews are feverishly removing radios to tow the cars.
Seriously, is that legal? You don't need to break in to a car to tow it.

I would say expect the repave sometime in the next 2 to 6 months.

Is there even a cycle lane on B? In any event, this is a just a little preview of what it will be like when the next mayor bulldozes them, along with the pedestrian plazas, so we can get back to an efficient grid system.
the question caught my interest and after some research, the answer is NO. towing companies CANNOT break into cars for towing purposes even if the car is parked illegally. it's illegal even if the police is present and ordered the break-in for the tow. permission must be granted by the car owner. therefore, that is an illegal tow in that pic and the towing company is liable for any scratches or damages (i.e. door lock). the burden of proof will be on them because you are the witness to your car everyday and you know your car better than they do. bottom line is if they cannot tow it, they must leave it; unless they want to risk damaging the car during the towing process, which the tower are definitely liable for.
(btw, this applies to street parking, not parking or private lots, although similar..)
I live right on B and they could not have done this at a worse fucking time. i hate this city sometimes... you just know their paving is going to suck as always. cant wait for it to happen again in 2 years... ugh
