The Swiss Water® Coffee Studio opens Friday on Lafayette and East Houston

A pop-up shop opens Friday in part of the BP station on Lafayette and East Houston that's facing demolition to make way for a retail-office building.

Here's the deal about the Swiss Water® Coffee Studio via Facebook:

This is a one of a kind experience to try coffee like you’ve never had it before.

Inside the Swiss Water® Coffee Studio you will be invited to experience the Art of Coffee Without Caffeine. Be guided through a sensory experience that includes espresso, hand crafted manually brewed coffee and cold brew options. There will also be educational elements of how we remove caffeine from coffee with our innovative and unique 100% chemical free process.

In the evenings, the experience amplifies the Art of Coffee Without Caffeine and additional musical elements and creative coffee cocktails will be introduced.

The studio will be up through Nov. 8. You can read more about the company here.

Why would you pay exorbitant prices for "special" coffees if it doesn't even have caffeine?

I'm waiting for the Sanka pop-up shop!

@10:04

Here here! I'll take my modest cup of Folger's Crystals or Taster's Choice over this pompous dribble any day.

Need to rein in the bullshit rhetoric. Experience! Experience! Sensory experience! Innovative! Unique! One of a kind! Experience! Settle the fuck down Beavis.

We need coffee without caffeine like we need ice cream without cream.

I'm old.

Ooooh! A "studio"! Not a shop or cafe. And decaf? Please to get fucked.

Coming soon: hydrogen-free water. It's so light you can practically breathe it in.

I'm in awe of the redundancy in "hand crafted manually brewed."

Less in awe of their claim that water isn't a chemical.

Giovanni, there's a mistake in your ad copy.

Water, H2O (molcular weight 18), is heavier than oxygen, O2 (molecular weight 32). I learned this in high-school chemistry. I also learned some gum-chewing techniques, including how to blow a bubble inside of a bubble. The teacher later got fired for molesting some of the students.

Suggested revision: "It's so pure you can practically breathe it in."

Water is caffeine free.

It's fucking coffee, you dorks. It's supposed to have caffeine.

Actually, I welcome this and it even brings tears to my eyes; I drink decaf whenever I can, because several years ago I hit a wall with caffeine and had to start drinking mostly or all decaf. I've now gone back to drinking regular coffee only because I take a melatonin tab at night to sleep.

Sorry Dr. Gecko, but water without hydrogren is oxygen. Even though oxygen has more mass than water, at room tempeature oxygen is a gas and is much lighter than water, so Giovanni is right. Otherwise we would all be drowning in liquid oxygen, and that is not pleasant at alll.

Does anyone else ever get weirded out by buildings being built over former gas stations?

I hope they make bubble coffee. I've heard that's pretty good.

DrGecko, I write ad copy for a living. :)

@Anon 4:03. My high school chemistry teacher was a hack.

@Giovanni. You're welcome. This one's free. My next correction will be billed, but at a reasonable rate.

@everybody. I hope we're not arguing about decaffeinated coffee. That's like arguing about dirt. The only coffee that the Swiss Water Process doesn't leave limp and tastless is coffee grown in Switzerland itself.

I think this is great for those of us who can't tolerate caffeine but still like the taste of coffee. I don't get all the hate I've read concerning this, but maybe everyone's nerves are just shot from all the caffeine? Calm down, folks. This is one place. There are 4,000 others where you can get your coffee.
