Yesterday in transporting vintage vehicles on Seventh Street

Yesterday afternoon, workers were transporting some vintage vehicles here on Seventh Street between Avenue A and First Avenue... it was quite a production, with part of the street blocked off ... Unfortunately, we don't have any information about this... Bobby Williams asked the workers about the vehicles, but they wouldn't discuss the matter...

Tenant-owner dispute on Seventh Street results in fire, dead dog, possible civil lawsuit

The Post has this story today. A couple who live on Seventh Street between Avenue A and First Avenue were out in January celebrating a legal victory against their landlord, Steven Croman, of Croman Realty. When they returned home, someone had broken into their ground-floor apartment and started a fire in their closet. (We wrote about the fire here.)

Their Labradoodle named Foster died eight days later as a result from the fire, the Post reports. (The couple had been asking Croman to to padlock two doors that led to their backyard.)

Police later arrested a 22-year-old "career criminal" for the burglary and arson. Police didn't find any connection between the man arrested and Croman. Meanwhile, the couple are considering filing a civil lawsuit against Croman Realty. They have since moved and have a new dog.

Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream gets a sign on Seventh Street

Yesterday, workers were putting up the new Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream sign on the shop's front window. Van Leeuwen opened in late May. People tell us that they like the shop's offerings... though it hasn't been quite as crowded as some people thought... Perhaps the sign will help.

Live in the house that inspired the art for 'If You Give a Mouse a Cookie'

Yes, that's the bonus trivia question that comes with this lovely house at 264 Seventh St. between Avenue C and Avenue D.

According to the Corcoran listing: 'Felicia Bond lived in the Garden Duplex when she illustrated the renowned children's book 'If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.'"

Otherwise, the rest of the place:

This incredible East Village three unit townhouse has great bones and endless possibilities! Currently set up as a parlor floor duplex with back yard and two floor through apartments, this classic townhouse is a great investment property or could be made into your own single family home! 48 Hours Notice required to view.

Asking price: $3.2 million. Perhaps a young writer will be inspired to write or illustrate "If You Give a Pub Crawler the Last Shot of Patrón" here.

EV Grieve reader Elizabeth Frayer of New York Natives spotted signage of the coming-soon Big Gay Ice Cream shop on Seventh Street in the former Xoom space...

Still no official opening date, though...

Meanwhile, a look inside the shop via the Big Gay Ice Cream Facebook page... which includes a mural (in progress here) by Sam Simon...

No opening day set for the Big Gay Ice Cream Shop on Seventh Street

Last month, Serious Eats reported that the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck is opening a brick-and-mortar shop at the former Xoom space on Seventh Street.

In a video interview posted yesterday at The Amateur Gourmet, Doug Quint and Bryan Petroff discussed the Big Gay Ice Cream Empire, which includes a book next summer.

At about the 1:25 mark, Quint tells Adam Roberts that the space is coming along. But! How about an opening date? "It opens when it's ready to be opened," he said. "We want to learn how to run the store properly before we open. So we aren't going to set a date."

And, well, here's the whole interview ...

Dessert Row lives: Here comes the Big Gay Ice Cream Shop to Seventh Street

Xoom, the nearly 18-month-old smoothie shop, moved out from its Seventh Street location in March. (Jennifer at Xoom is planning to open in another East Village location.)

Meanwhile! Serious Eats (via Eater) reports that the folks behind the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck are opening a shop in the former Xoom space. And this will likely happen next month or so.

Meanwhile! (Again!) Big Gay Ice Cream is the second trucker to open an ice cream shop on Seventh Street. We expect to find Van Leeuwen open soon near Second Avenue.
