'FBI' alert for filming CBS series on Friday (tomorrow!)

The CBS crime drama "FBI" is the latest television program to film along Avenue A and other parts of the neighborhood.

The posted notices highlight the crew's footprint tomorrow, with parts of Seventh Street, Second Street and Third Street seeing some "FBI" action.

The fleet of fake NYPD cruisers is currently parked along Second Street between Avenue A and First Avenue...
"FBI" is the third TV show to film around here this year ... following "New Amsterdam" and "Pose" (and "Hawkeye" this past December).

Like a fine wine, this corner gets better with filming

If you've been on Avenue A today, then you likely noticed that film crews are prepping for scenes for the excellent FX series "Pose."

And as the top photo shows, it appears that Discount Fine Wine & Champagne’s (someone previously did make an effort to paint over the errant apostrophe) will be making another cameo on the southeast corner of Fourth Street... just like back in December when "Hawkeye" was in town...

A touch of spring on 10th Street thanks to 'Pose'

Ahead of a planned shoot tomorrow, workers are on 10th Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue... painstakingly adding fresh flowers to this tree to make it appear that it is blooming in the spring...
Posted signs say this production is for "Still Life" Season 3...
However, multiple sources say that the shoot is for the long-awaited third season of the excellent FX drama "Pose."

These signs are also posted in other parts of the East Village, including along Avenue A and adjacent to Tompkins Square Park on 10th Street.

Thanks to Steven for the photos and Lola for the initial tip!

Medical procedures: A few moments filming for 'New Amsterdam' today along Avenue A

Crews for the third-year NBC medical drama "New Amsterdam" were out along Avenue A and several adjacent side streets today... EVG contributor Stacie Joy saw some of the filming action unfold on Avenue A at Fifth Street... (the ambulance was part of the shoot...)
... the graffiti on the Fifth Street side of the Con Ed substation was covered with a black screen for this scene...
... and a view on Avenue A outside Mast, Cafe Social 68 (try the croissants!) and Lancelotti...
No word on when Fifth and A's supporting role will make it into the episode...

Doctor's orders: 'New Amsterdam' film notices arrive along Avenue A

Here's advance notice of a TV shoot happening in and around the Key Food region on Avenue at Fourth Street... cast and crew for the NBC medical drama "New Amserdam" will be filming around here next Wednesday, Feb. 17.

This is the second production to set up here in recent months... crews for the Disney+ series "Hawkeye" — via Marvel Studios — were filming on Fourth Street at Avenue A in early December.

Straight shooters: Marvel Studios brings 'Hawkeye' to 4th Street for Disney+ series

Crews for the Disney+ series "Hawkeye" — via Marvel Studios — were filming on Fourth Street today at Avenue A... where EVG contribuor Stacie Joy took these photos...
... including of leads Hailee Steinfeld and Jeremy Renner in full costume...
... Renner is reprising his Marvel Universe role as the superhero Hawkeye and his alter ego Clint Barton and Steinfeld plays his protégé Kate Bishop (also known as Hawkeye) ... (had to look all this up)... glad to see the Wine & Champagne's sign get some screen time!
... there was also filming down the block at Avenue B, as we noted yesterday ... with some fake snow ... and the Half Gallery dressed like an old-school hardware store...
... and Lucky the Pizza Dog also made an appearance...
The filming continues tonight.

This also appears to be one of the biggest TV-film shoots in recent memory, arguably up there with "Die Hard With a Vengeance" (in Tompkins Square Park) and "The Devil's Advocate" (at Most Holy Redeemer on Third Street).

Marvel Studios will be filming the 'Hawkeye' Disney+ series in the East Village this week

You've likely seen the signs around Avenue A and some side streets for something called "Anchor Point," which is actually the working title of "Hawkeye" ... the new series for Disney+ based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name.

As I cut-n-paste from the Internet: "It is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, sharing continuity with the films of the franchise. The series takes place after the events of the film 'Avengers: Endgame.'"

Anyway, it promises to be a big shoot tomorrow... with production vehicles expected on an array of side streets... from Fourth Street to 10th Street and First Avenue to Avenue C... check out the streets on the posted move-your-vehicles notices...
Ahead of the shoot, the Half Gallery on Fourth Street and Avenue B has been transformed into an old-time heating-appliance store, as these photos by Stacie Joy show... (and this prompted some confusion among residents, a few who tried to enter the fake storefront...)
There was some filming in downtown Brooklyn last week. The cast reportedly includes Hailee Steinfeld, Alaqua Cox, Tony Dalton, Vera Farmiga, Florence Pugh and Jeremy Renner.

And this is not the first time a Marvel series has been filmed in the East Village. Flashback time.

Friday's parting shot

Black Friday, and we had the first fake snow sighting of the season... crews for "Tick, Tick... Boom!" — a musical drama directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda based on the semi-autobiographical musical of the same name by Jonathan Larson — are back on Fourth Street between Second Avenue and the Bowery. (The cast includes Andrew Garfield, Alexandra Shipp, Vanessa Hudgens, Judith Light and Bradley Whitford.)

Christmas comes early on Avenue A with filming for the new Netflix series 'Dash & Lily'

[Top 2 photos by @Jason_Chatfield]

Crews were out today along Avenue A and Third Street shooting scenes for "Dash & Lily," an eight-episode holiday romantic comedy series set for Netflix in 2020. (The show is based on the young-adult book series "Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares" from authors Rachel Cohn and David Levithan.)

Two Boots served as the location for the shoot this morning...

And given the holiday theme... Third Street was dressed with a Christmas tree stand... As Cáit O'Riordan, who shared this photo, joked on Twitter: "Ah! I thought I’d blacked out and missed Halloween."

Expect to see more of "Dash & Lily" around the neighborhood... they'll be filming along here again tomorrow... and there are posted notices on other streets, including 12th Street near the Strand.

You can read this article for more background on the series, which stars Austin Abrams and Midori Francis.

When Via Della Pace on 7th Street became Hobart & Blackwell for 'The Goldfinch'

[Derek Berg photo from February 2018]

"The Goldfinch" is in theaters this weekend. The adaptation of Donna Tartt’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, featuring Ansel Elgort, Nicole Kidman, Jeffrey Wright, Sarah Paulson and Finn Wolfhard, has mostly been trashed by critics for being dull and disjointed. Rotten Tomatoes shows a dismal composite score of 24 percent.

As you may recall, "Goldfinch" crews were here in February 2018 ... and again for reported reshoots in October 2018. They transformed the Italian restaurant Via Della Pace on Seventh Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue into an antiques shop for the film. Derek Berg documented part of the shoot in these photos.

... and how the storefront — Hobart & Blackwell antiques and restoration shop run by Jeffrey Wright's character — looks in the trailer...

Noted, Bonobos edition

Crews will be shooting a commercial tomorrow for Bonobos on Ninth Street... the south side of the street between Avenue A and First Avenue is now blocked off for filming ....

EVG regular Carol from East 5th Street, who shared these photos, asks why all these spots were blocked off today at 9 a.m. for a shoot that starts the following morning...

What the F? New subway stop arrives on 4th Street courtesy of 'Mr. Robot'

Earlier today, crews installed a fake F stop on the southwest corner of Second Avenue and Fourth Street as these photos by EVG reader Devon Schuyler show...

Later in the day, workers installed a few more touches ... this photo is from Derek Berg...

Apparently this is for a "Mr. Robot" shoot... back filming in the neighborhood.

Noted

As we posted yesterday, crews prepped 10th Street between Second Avenue and Third Avenue for a circa-2015 Christmas scene for a "Mr Robot" shoot tomorrow.

There has been some grumbling in general about the number of film and TV shoots in the area... and an EVG reader wonders if this is one way for someone to make his or her feelings known — removing one of the posted film-production signs to use for the dog, and then leaving it behind ... spotted along 10th Street where "Mr. Robot" will be filming...

Christmas is coming to 10th Street Friday thanks to 'Mr. Robot'

Crews are prepping 10th Street between Second Avenue and Third Avenue to create a circa-2015 (those were the days!) Christmas scene for a "Mr Robot" shoot on Friday and early Saturday morning ... EVG Christmas Scene correspondent Steven shared these photos from this morning...

Block Association reps posted these signs for neighbors... noting that the production crew is making a donation to the Block Association to help replace the downed trees from that flukey storm this past November...

The Block Association is also requesting a hiatus on film shoots along here.

Your 'Russian Doll' reader

"Russian Doll" debuted on Nexflix on Feb. 1. The macabre, eight-episode series, created by Natasha Lyonne, Amy Poehler and Leslye Headland, is set in the East Village ... with many EV locales, including Ben's Deli on Avenue B, Vazac's/7B/Horseshoe Bar on Seventh Street and Avenue B, and Tompkins Square Park.

Lyonne (who has lived around here and and off through the years) plays the lead character who keeps dying and coming back to life at the same point during her 36th birthday party...

Anyway, I'd been meaning to write about the show — mostly for the use of the EV locales. However, I've only watched the first two episodes (I like it, though I'm not much of a binge watcher. I'm an episode-a-week person mostly). Meanwhile, there have been about 5 million articles written on "Russian Doll," with a few more million to arrive before I get through the next six episodes.

Here then instead, a selection of articles on the show...

The Key to 'Russian Doll' Might Be Tompkins Square Park (The New York Times)

'Russian Doll' Is Natasha Lyonne's 'Autobiography Wrapped in a Mind-Bending Concept' (The Hollywood Reporter)

How Natasha Lyonne’s 'Russian Doll' Stunt Double Filmed All Those Death Scenes (Vulture)

Speaking of death... here's flashback to an EVG post from Feb 28, 2018...

Crews were out today filming scenes for "Russian Doll," an eight-episode Netflix series from Natasha Lyonne, Leslye Headland and Amy Poehler.

The comedy series follows Lyonne (pictured above) "on her journey as the guest of honor at a seemingly inescapable party one night in New York," per Hollywood Reporter.

Derek Berg caught this scene outside Vazac's/7B/Horseshoe Bar on Avenue B and Seventh Street...

...as Lyonne's stunt double...
