In other exciting retail news … there's a new tenant for the former Jennifer Convertibles space at 111 Third Ave. near East 14th St. …

Signage is up now for Sleepy's … which, despite the grand opening signage...



isn't actually open yet. As you can see — no beds!

Community 54 arrives on Avenue B



Community 54 opened this week at 186 Avenue B between East 11th Street and East 12th Street.

The street wear boutique moved here from the doomed stretch of 50-62 Clinton St., where they closed up shop back in January.

Business partners Daymon Green and Jason Jacobs describe the store this way on their website:

Community 54 is a neighborhood lifestyle boutique inspired by creative nostalgia. From classic arcade games and vintage street wear, mixed with new indie brands and contemporary art, the space is a destination for curators of unique collectibles and clothing.

The space was previously home to Gruppo, who moved down Avenue B in March 2013.

Dryden Gallery moves away from Fourth Avenue

Back in April, we noted that the retail space on the southeast corner of Fourth Avenue and East 13th Street — currently home to Brothers Deli and Dryden Gallery — is for lease...

Anyway, just noting that Dryden has moved out of its space ...


... just over to East 12th Street between Broadway and University...


RKF still has the listing on its website ... so nothing must be imminent here just yet...

Perhaps when the Hyatt Union Square finally opens across the street...

Bad news-good news-maybe good news about Avenue A retail

The bad: East Village Pharmacy on Avenue A and Fifth Street has lost their lease...


The good: They're just moving to 41 Avenue A at the corner of Third Street, the site of the long-dormant coffee shop... this will help bring a little life to this lonely stretch of Avenue A...

Maybe good news: Maybe something else decent will move into the soon-to-be-empty East Village Pharmacy space... the sign says no restaurants, but food OK...

Avenue A finally getting some more retail

Work continues at 41 Avenue A on the corner of East Third Street.... where the Coffee Pot once lived...



As DNAinfo noted in September, a pharmacy is taking over this space... this rather empty stretch of A — on the west side of the Avenue between Third and Second — may soon get some company. According to the website of the landlord, the New York City Housing Authority, there are applications in place for 35 Avenue A and 37 Avenue A.



37 Avenue A was once the Two Boots Restaurant. 35 Avenue A was last the Sons & Daughters high-end kids shop.

Listing appears for Houston and Avenue D development

Back in January, the Lo-Down broke the story about a new development (with a roof deck! and $2,800 studios!) coming to Houston and Avenue D... They had a follow-up on the scoop in February, reporting:

The developer, whose name was not disclosed, intends to build on the corner of Houston and Avenue D. There would be 166 rental apartments, 34 of them affordable. This past Tuesday evening, CB3 accepted the committee’s recommendation to approve the deal, with 18 voting yes and 11 voting no.


Anyway, I stumbled upon the ground floor retail listing the other day at Robert K. Futterman & Associates (RKF) ...
