Subtle enough. And, hey — how about the food? We haven't eaten there ourselves... a few trustworthy EV Grieve regulars have tried it... all say the food is quite good, though portion size seems to vary... and one commenter said that upon his visit, everyone eating and working at Goat Town looked like Luke Wilson's character (pre haircut) from "The Royal Tenenbaums."

"I watched a hawk sailing overhead (as I have done quite frequently in the general area of Whole Foods lately), until it swooped downward with no small amount of grace, landing on the water tower atop 18 2nd Ave. It was still there 30 or so minutes later. I suspect that is is not one of the Tompkins Square Park hawks, but perhaps one staking out new territory."

Every pioneer that has passed through Lower Manhattan has no doubt felt that their time there was the Golden Age. There were the Dutch and then the English and Irish. And, even before them, the Indians who smoked tobacco pipes on wooded paths. I’m sure my great-grandmother, who made an extended pit stop there between Ellis Island and Jersey City, thought the neighborhood had lost its edge back in the ’90s — the 1890s. “Posers,” I can hear her say in Southern Italian dialect. “Imposters.”
Bikers pedaling in the Sixth Precinct — between 14th and Houston Sts., west of Broadway — better keep on their toes. Sixth Precinct police are issuing warnings to bicycle riders to obey the rules, such as the ones that say, except for riders under the age of 12 on bikes with wheels less than 26 inches in diameter, cyclists must ride on the street, in the direction of vehicular traffic, and not on sidewalks.
Now, the Guggenheim is floating a plan to build a two-level structure there in late 2011 that would act as a short-term community center, gathering space and think-tank before moving to other major international cities, representatives from the museum told Community Board 3 Thursday.
Staffers at Mercadito Cantina on Avenue B have begun telling regulars that the offshoot of the flagship eatery across the street will close on Jan. 30.
One source said that a lack of a liquor license doomed the cantina. (Beer and wine are available. However, otherwise, the bar serves "tric-quila.") CB3 turned twice turned down their request for a full liquor license, citing an oversaturation of bars in the area.
Without being able to offer margaritas, Mercadito Cantina had to charge more for their food.
The flagship Mercadito across the street will remain open.
They are turning their space . . . into an event space where they'll offer "innovative cooking demonstrations by Chef Sandoval, beverage classes by Tippling Bros., private party packages and more."
Applications are due today (or at least postmarked) in Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer's office to be considered for a community board appointment. (DNAinfo's Patrick Hedlund just wrote a piece telling more about the process here.)
In a post last month, EV Grieve reader Stedman alertly noted the new sign outside 2 Cooper Square on the Bowery.... "Are we the West Village now? I didn't get the memo."
So the 2 Cooper power brokers have put up a more accurate sign to reflect their address...
