Workers this week removed the sidewalk bridge and construction netting that had surrounded/covered P.S. 19 on First Avenue between 11th Street and 12th Street for what
seemed like a long time... Steven shared these photos...

permit in July 2019 ... for the roof-replacement roof here...

Wow - a miracle - never seen the sidewalks so clean - ( give it a few days and it will back to a trash scattered mess )
I would be curious to know how long that scaffolding was up? Seems like 5 years or more.
They put the scaffolding in middle of July 2019 but then they didn’t do anything till late August. Then the school year started so they were not able to operate at during the day. So every day work started at 4pm and will end at midnight (loud, noisy, light projectors operating 24/7). By January 2020 they were done. Bu the scaffolding stayed for another 14 months because why not. This is the Department of Education division of school fasciitis. Meanwhile it has been 14 months that the public has no access to the amazing PS19 playground that was renovated with funding from the Trust for Public land that donated $850,000 out of a $1,000,000 budget under the condition that it will be open for the public after school hours, during the weekend and throughout the summer. A condition that the city stopped funding for a year ago (funding to pay the school custodian to maintain the park).
The blockfront could use more public benches (as could the bus stop across the avenue).
Could we please also have a USPS mailbox back again on the NW corner of 11th & First ? [The new ones have narrow, anti-terrorism / anti-theft slots.]
One could perhaps mail a letter, sit, & and admire the school's hawthorn trees.
Especially since The Bean's community benches on 9th Street are now gone.
