The FDNY was quickly on the scene and extinguished the small fire... which, according to the Citizen app, was contained to the balcony...

Our neighbors behind on 5th St regularly host campfires in their backyard. According to 311, you can have campfires in your backyard in Manhattan.
Anon. 11:03 AM - Call 911 and they will tell you different. My beer pong-playing neighbors directly across from me had a loud party in their garden two winters ago, with an open fire right near their wood fence for heat; around 1 AM I called the FDNY, described the situation, and I am not lying when I tell you that I had not yet even hung up the phone when I heard the sirens from Engine 5 coming down 10th Street. The NYPD must have been listening in because they decided to come along for the fun as well - this was when they still sort of gave a crap - and I greatly enjoyed watching these sodden young drunks get yelled at by firemen, who had quickly extinguished the blaze, and the cops, who threatened to arrest everyone if they did anything like it again. Not so much as a lit match back there since then.
