You'd never know that this was, until October 2019, the longtime home of the Salvation Army Family Store. SA reps told us at the time that the landlord had terminated their lease.
The storefront is now being pitched for restaurant usage — or anyone else who can afford the monthly asking rent of $38,000. (Listing here.) The space has three levels, with 2,400 square feet on the ground floor.

$38K a month. Will be interesting to see how fast this rents, and to whom.
Wow that’s a lot of rent. That little corner feels like a bit of uninteresting dead zone in comparison to other corners around that block, so a little shocked to see that rent.
I remember when you could buy a house for $38K and I'm not old. Prices naturally go up, but the cost increases during this lifetime are insane and it's happening everywhere. Will there ever be a breaking point?
As crazy as that rent is, it's nice to see how they've spiffied up that cast iron facade. I had no idea it looked like that!
Investors as landlords are delusional with these rents. Even the national chains they hope for to pay the astronomical rents end up buckling and leaving after a year or two.

Still miss that Salvation Army. The one on 23rd St. closed too, even though it's still lasted as being open; as far as I know the only one still around is the big outlet on W. 46th Street. And seriously, 38K a month? Someone's been inhaling some of that illicit weed here.
Actually, the location at 208 E 23rd Street is currently open Mon-Sat 10a-6p.
