After decades at Avenue A and Third Street, Two Boots Pizza served its final slices here last night.
The closure comes after a rent increase that owner Phil Hartman said made it impossible to stay, as we first reported.
Still, there's hope for a sequel: Hartman is searching for a new East Village home and plans to bring many of the shop's murals, mosaics and other artwork along for the next chapter.

I love 2 Boots and have been going there since day one, back when it was on the other side of Avenue A. But isn't 2 Boots a mini-chain? They have several other locations, don't they?
I'll miss this one. I live on 3rd Street, and I'd love to see them find a new space. But it's not as if the business is disappearing entirely, and it's not as if the owner is losing his only source of income. That's why I'm confused by some of the coverage. None of the articles seem to acknowledge that this is one location of a larger operation.

It's not about the money. Losing a cherished location after thirty years would be hard for any small business owner.
I like the local-ness of the business, but I didn’t go even tho it’s close where I live because I didn’t enjoy the pizza too much. Here’s hoping something enjoyable for locals and non-bar opens in its stead.
I would love to see them bring back the original Two Boots Restaurant concept with Cajun and Italian lunch and dinner mains in addition to their pizza with table service like their first place on the west side of Avenue A.
Thanks for feeding our kids during their neighborhood school days. . The after school special sure helped a lot of us Moms. Best wishes for finding another space.

Phil is great! He is a lover and supporter of the arts AND our neighborhood. This is the kind of thing that makes our neighborhood less. Greedy landlords have killed our formerly iconic East Village.
What can we do to help?
Who is the landlord who demanded the rent hike? We have a right to know to snub this horse's rear from every East Village business.

I didn't make it over there, but I've eaten my fair share of TBP over the years. I'll make time to go to the new location when it opens.
