A 2020 look at 24 2nd Ave., now with a high-end Mathieu Lehanneur showroom

From the posts-we-never-got-around-to-posting-in-2019 department, here's, perhaps, a last look at 24 Second Ave. (aka 32 E. First St.), the 10-story condoplex with ground-floor retail on site of a former BP gas station.

We've been documenting the building's progress these past four-plus years. As previously reported, the building features 30 condos. The building's website — "meticulous meets magnificence" — lists five units available for purchase, with prices ranging from $1.375 million to $3.625 million.

The marketing materials note that the residences were "inspired by a modern interpretation of Italian rationalist design, the living spaces are designed with sleek detailing and rich character with each corner and angle offering up a visual experience."

Also, that ballerina mural via French artist JR that went up on an adjacent building in December 2015 remains in view for the building's outdoor space. (Some units also have ballerina views.)

Meanwhile, signage for the Mathieu Lehanneur showroom arrived in early November ... it took multiple requests to several sources at the address to learn whether this was a full-time endeavor or merely a pop-up shop for the designer. (Apparently full time, though the showroom is by appointment only.)

The BP station closed in July 2014. This was the second-to-last gas station in the East Village, joined later by the Mobil station on Avenue C and East Houston in September 2014.

Checking in on the BP-replacing condoplex of 2nd Avenue

Friday's post on how quickly the condoplex is going up at 32 E. Seventh St. (aka 119-121 Second Ave.) prompted a few readers to ask about 24 Second Ave. (aka 32 E. First St.) six blocks to the south.

There's slowish but steady progress on this 10-story condoplex on the site of the former BP station, the second-to-last-one in the neighborhood. We noted that the building reached the third floor in April 2017.

What this area needs is a good nickname — ChryBo? BonTie?

24 2nd Ave. getting its limestone exoskeleton

Over at 24 Second Ave. (aka 32 E. First St.), workers have been adding the stone-colored frames to the façade of the 10-story condoplex that replaced the East Village's second-to-last gas station.

Here's a look at the limestone exoskeleton in-progress on the First Street side...



As previously noted, the building will house 31 condos, with homes ranging from $1.125 million (a whopping 484 square feet!) to $10.5 million (the penthouse).

And here's part of the lengthy description of the penthouse via Douglas Elliman:

Here's an end of the year look at 32 E. First St. (aka 24 Second Ave.), the 10-story 31-unit condoplex at the site of a former BP station... the windows are (mostly) all in... soon enough, we'll see that advertised limestone exoskeleton ...

Here on Second Avenue at First Street (officially 32 E. First St.!), work is zipping along on the 10-story 31-unit condoplex at the site of a former BP station.



Sales started last month, with homes ranging from $1.175 million to $8.7 million. (Six of the homes are apparently already in contract, per Streeteasy.)

Pricing revealed at these 2 condoplexes

Over at 32 E. First St. at Second Avenue ... Curbed has details on the 10-story, 33-unit condoplex (with ground-floor retail): "Prices here start at $1.175 million and climb as high as $8.7 million. Six of the condos are already in contract while another six, including a three-bedroom, three-bathroom penthouse are currently listed on the market."

This was the former BP station site, which closed in July 2014.

And on 10th Street and Fourth Avenue... three of the 12 units here at the 10-floor condoplex arrived on the market last week.

Per Curbed: "The development, called Eighty East Tenth, is designed by NAVA Companies and will offer a mix of one- through five-bedrooms, priced from $1.85 million. There’ll be no more than two apartments on each floor and range from around 925 square feet to over 5,000 square feet."

Looking at the BP-replacing condos coming to 32 E. 1st St.

As we noted two weeks ago, the mural by Brazilian twins Os Gêmeos was starting to disappear behind the new 10-story retail-residential building at 24 Second Ave. and First Street.

CityRealty had more details this week about the "spiffy collection of condos" expected to be finished later next year. For starters, the official address of the building housing 33 condos is 32 E. First St.

Here's more via CityRealty:

The lively and geometric exterior is designed by the design firm Combined who is a joint-partnership between RSVP Architecture Studio and N-Plus Design Studio. The façade is composed of stone-colored frames that project from a face of windows and dark-colored spandrels and mullions.



New interior renderings show the forthcoming homes will have open layouts, arrays of windows that are not quite floor-to-ceiling, and beveled ceilings. The amenity offerings will include a fitness center, spa, mail room, communal terrace and a recreation room.
