Man survives fall on F train tracks yesterday; called 'hobo' by Post

There were a lot of news accounts yesterday morning about an F train striking a man at the station at Houston and Second Avenue. The Post has more details.

The man, 26-year-old Alexander Flefleh, fell off the platform and miraculously survived. "He suffered head trauma, but broke no bones below his neck, said his mom, Aphrodite Flefleh of Astoria, Queens."

She also said that he lives in a homeless shelter and "suffers from seizures, as well as emotional and drug problems." The man, whose birthday was yesterday, may have had a seizure and fell.

And, as you can see from the headline, the Post described Alexander Flefleh as a "hobo."

Developing: Accident involving NYU bus at Lafayette and East 4th Street

Just after 9 ... on East Fourth Street and Lafayette... details are scarce right at the moment... so we don't know exactly how the NYU bus ended up on the sidewalk next to Astor Wines ... photos via EVG reader Brad212...

More details as they become available...

Updated 10 a.m.:

Via Community Board 3 member Chad Marlow:

"I passed by the NYU bus this morning. Couldn't get too close because my kids were with me and it didn't look good. The bus definitely collided pretty violently with a black car (not certain if private or livery). When I passed by there were two fire trucks and at least one ambulance on the scene. It looked like the firefighters were making an effort to prey open the black car."

Updated 10:05 a.m.:

NYU Local is working on the story. Per their post: According to a user on Facebook, the bus "looks like it was sideswiped by a car on Lafayette. Windows shattered, Toyota bumper was laying on the sidewalk."

Construction mishap turns NYU dorm into a concrete jungle

There's news to report about the incoming 16-story building coming to 133 Third Ave., just north of Third Avenue...

Some sort of construction mishap on Dec. 5 "accidentally sent wet concrete oozing through a wall and into an NYU dorm next door," according to a report yesterday on DNAinfo. The ooze reportedly damaged the rooms of three students on the dorm's fourth floor. NYU has repaired the rooms, though the students have decided to stay for the time in their alternative housing.

As a result, per DNA:

The owner of the building leased by NYU for use as the Coral Towers dorms is seeking $1 million in damages from developer McArthur Morgan, LLC and a permanent end to construction at 133 Third Ave.

Maybe we can bring back that addendum to Jam Envelope & Paper?

Just before 6 this morning, witnesses say that the car photographed above slammed into two parked vehicles on East 11th Street after making the turn from Avenue C.

The man who crashed the car was allegedly drunk, according to witnesses.

Witnesses described the incident, in which NYPD officers allegedly slammed the driver's head into the ground multiple times. The 6-8 officers who responded to the scene also allegedly used pepper spray on the man who was already in handcuffs and on the ground, according to eyewitnesses. More details about Friday afternoon's stairwell collapse at 86 E. Fourth St.

As we reported Friday afternoon, emergency crews responded to a report of an accident inside 86 E. Fourth St. at Second Avenue... According to witnesses, a woman was leaving the building, and the landing on the third-floor staircase collapsed and she fell through to the next floor.

EMTs took her to a hospital. We do not know her condition at the moment.

Meanwhile, Occupy East 4th Street has more details on the accident. Yesterday, the blog noted that the following flyer appeared (after the collapse).

The firefighters reportedly built a temporary landing before leaving. Occupy East 4th Street had this account from a witness at the scene Friday afternoon: "The thing about this is that there were tons of cops and firemen around, but none of them were asking questions of the construction crew, unless they were doing that inside. I didn't see any workers going in or out of the building, and I'm guessing they ran as soon as the accident occurred."

As we've been reporting, RURU & Associates purchased the building last fall ... residents have said that the new owner and management — ID'd by multiple readers and tipsters as the (Oheb)Shalom family — are declining to offer new leases as current tenant leases expire.

Find further coverage of 86 E. Fourth St. here.

[Updated] Report: Worker falls through subway grate in front of IHOP

[DNA/Tuan Nguyen]

We're receiving reader reports that someone fell through a subway grate on East 14th Street between Second Avenue and Third Avenue. As Fox first reported:

A worker fell through a subway grate on E. 14th Street in Manhattan Friday morning, said FDNY officials.

It is not clear why the grate, which serves as a ventilation shaft for the subway tunnel below the sidewalk, gave way.

The worker who is in his 60s was rushed to Bellevue Hospital with neck injuries, added EMS officials.

One reader said that it occurred in front of IHOP ... which the report (and photo) by DNAinfo confirms ...

The Times noted that the man was not seriously injured.

Updated:

The worker DID NOT fall through the grate. He was standing on a ladder beneath the grate and fell.

[Updated] Reader reports: Pedestrian in 'extremely critical condition' after being struck by motorcycle on East 12th Street early this morning

[@robbyohara]

We're putting together various reader reports of a fatality early this morning on East 12th Street just east of Avenue A. According to readers, a motorcycle struck and killed a man sometime around 4:30 a.m.

An account from a reader who lives near the scene of the accident:

I heard a sickening crash. I thought two cars had hit each other. I jumped up and looked out the window and saw a silver BMW motorcycle in the street in front of 503 East 12th Street facing the wrong way. Then I saw a man laying in the middle of the road. People were attending to him and yelling call 911, so I called 911. The cops, firemen and ambulance came quickly. It looked like he was bleeding from the head. There is still blood on the street.

Anyway, I thought he was the motorcyclist and maybe a car had hit him and took off. I went out this morning, though, and asked the cops if the motorcyclist was okay, and the cop said he's fine, but the person he hit is dead.

No charges have been filed, we hear. We'll have more on this soon... WABC and NY1 are at the scene...

UPDATE:
Based on comments and emails with witnesses...

The victim is at Beth Israel in critical condition. The victim, who is 33, was apparently walking with two friends at the time of the accident. Police sources say it is the victim's birthday today. No charges have been filed against the motorcyclist.

DNAinfo reports that the victim is in "extremely critical condition."

UPDATE Jan. 2:

The Post has this today in the NYPD Daily Blotter:

An intoxicated man walking home with friends early yesterday morning was hit by a motorcyclist on an East Village street.

Daniel Hiwale, 33, was crossing East 12th Street, near Avenue A, against the light at 4:18 a.m. when he fell and was struck by the 38-year-old biker, who was traveling eastbound on East 12th Street, cops said.

Hiwale was in extremely critical condition at Beth Israel Hospital, cops added. The biker, who tried to avoid the crash, remained at the scene, and there was no criminality, police said.

More on last night's falling window lintel on East 10th Street

We have more information about last night's near-miss accident on East 10th Street near Avenue B. Michael Sean Edwards was on the scene... He tells us that it was just after midnight when a third-floor window lintel fell to the sidewalk from 341 E. 10th St.

Per Michael:

"The main piece narrowly missed a young woman on the sidewalk. Considering the number of people on the sidewalk in front of and around the Blind Barber Bar, it is very fortunate that no one was injured. The police were on the scene and quickly taped off the area. The fire department responded, followed shortly by the Building Dept.

The area is now cordoned off and under police surveillance until the landlord erects a sidewalk shed and repairs the brickwork, which is visibly in pretty bad shape."

And here are his photos...
