Owners of Macaron Parlor on St. Mark's Place opening city's first cat cafe

Christina Ha and Emilie Legrand, the owners of Macaron Parlour on St. Mark's Place, have announced that they are opening Meow Parlour on the Lower East Side next month.

According to Eater, who first reported this news today, the cat cafe will be at 46 Hester St. (between Essex and Ludlow) ... with a planned Dec. 15 opening date.

Here are details via the Meow Parlour website:

At Meow Parlour, you can rent time to access to our space, where we have adoptable free roaming cats. You can come for as little as half an hour so you can just pet the cats or stay for up to five hours where you can use our free wi-fi while a cat naps next to you.

You can bring in food or beverage you purchase at Meow Parlour Patisserie, located around the corner from Meow Parlour and enjoy a sweet treat in the company of a furry friend.

All the cats are adoptable. Meow Parlour has teamed up with KittyKind, an all volunteer, no kill rescue group located in NYC. KittyKind specializes in adopting out cats so if you fall in love, you can apply to adopt one!

And more via Eater:

It's $4 for every half hour, and there's a limit of five hours maximum. Plus, the cafe takes online reservations, which is probably a better bet than just trying to walk in.

As we've heard, cats are popular, unless you are a dog person, though it is not uncommon for people to like cats and dogs.

Last spring, the pop-up Cat Café on the Bowery attracted long lines. Really long lines.

Today in photos of cats in Tompkins Square Park

Thanks to Facebook for telling me this is the Sphynx, a breed of cat known for its lack of a coat.

You don't really need a coat in this weather. Haha. (Sorry!)

These 2 adorable East Village cats need a new home

EVG friend Bayou shares this with us… "Audrey and Francine need a new loving home. They are funny, affectionate and come running for the dinner bell. I know them personally. They are BFF and should stay together."

Also!

"Will be four years old in 2014. Can live with dogs."

The owner, a longtime East Village resident, is really broken up about having to rehome them, but her husband has developed allergies. (No rehoming-the-husband-comments please!)

Here's the owner's email for serious inquiries...

These adorable cats and kittens need homes

[Benny]

The folks at Social Tees Animal Rescue on East Fifth Street shared some news of new arrivals...

We rescued 10 kittens and cats from the euthanasia list (at Animal Care & Control) a few nights ago, and half of them arrived Thursday night! More are set to arrive. THESE KITTIES NEED HOMES!!! We are also pretty desperate for foster homes for cats and kittens. Fostering lasts a week or two, and for every animal we place in a foster home we can take another out of the kill shelter.

325 East 5th Street
5-7 pm weekdays; 12-4 pm weekends

And Social Tees is doing an adoption event today with cats/kittens at the Petco in Union Square from noon to 4 p.m.

Among the new arrivals...

Are you missing your adorable cat?

A reader found this cat last night on East Ninth Street between Avenue A and First Avenue. Per the reader: "She's a sweetie. Definitely domestic."

Let us know if we can help make a reunion...

Do Do is missing

EVG reader Seth shares this:

Anyone who's walked regularly down Broome between Eldridge and Forsyth probably knows "Do Do" — the temple cat at the Guan Gong Temple, 294 Broome. He's often sitting stoically with his quiet Buddha-nature by the door, observing passersby. Sadly, he's missing, and the temple congregants have put a few signs up around the neighborhood. Hopefully neighbors can keep an eye out around the neighborhood and park and if they see him (hopefully alive) grab him and bring him back to the temple. He's a bit of a neighborhood fixture.

Adorable cat alert! LIL BUB WAS IN THE EAST VILLAGE TODAY

[Photo by EVG regular Derek Berg]

Today at Social Tees on East Fifth Street, cat lovers lined up for the chance to meet and greet Lil BUB — "the most amazing creature on the planet.

The adorable Internet sensation/rescue kitty is in town for the premiere of the documentary "Lil BUB & Friendz" at the Tribeca Film Festival Thursday.

Sadly, Lil BUB was just there from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to hobnob with feline fans who brought a donation of cat food, eco-friendly cleaning supplies, etc.

And here she is on the block.

[Updated] Stray cat on East Seventh Street needs a home

A message from an EVG reader on East Seventh Street...

I have the sweetest cat hanging around my garden for a few days. Do you know anyone who would be interested in him? A young male... let's you rub his tummy and a real darling.

Serious inquiries only to the EV Grieve email

Updated 10-28

Per Dave on 7th: "The neighbor who was going to take the cat in for the storm took him to a vet ... and the vet found a chip with owner info on it." And the kitty and owner have been reunited...

Kitty almost kornered

We've noted the cat who has been living/hanging out in Tompkins Square... (here and here)...

Anyway, yesterday, two women attempted to lure the cat into a have-a-heart trap...

Bobby Williams, who took the photos, notes that the pair was not successful.

Here kitty kitty

We posted a few photos last week of the gorgeous cat seen at times hanging around Tompkins Square Park ... Bobby Williams spotted the cat again yesterday, and he/she was happy (mostly) to pose for a few more photos...

Rex is missing

As several readers have noted, there seems to be a rash of missing-lost pet flyers of late... Here is another. A little background. The person who sent along the email said that a friend moved to another country, and needed to find a new home for his cats. An East Village resident took in Rex, but later apparently abandoned him somewhere in the neighborhood.

There is a permanent home for Rex now once he is found.

Are you missing a cat?

Bobby Williams spotted this cat in Tompkins Square Park yesterday... a stray? Someone's pet? Anyone...?

Bobby noted that someone had given the cat food and water ...

Spotted mid-block on the East Seventh Street entrance...
