Melting 'Flesh and Bone'

Crews were apparently filming a wintertime scene of the upcoming Starz TV series "Flesh and Bone" on East Ninth Street on this chilly 90-degree day ... which is why the actors were in coats and stuff.

And about the show!

Claire, a talented but emotionally troubled dancer, joins a company in New York City, and soon finds herself immersed in the tough and often cutthroat world of professional ballet.

Sounds hot.

Today in TV shoots around the neighborhood

First up! "Unforgettable," a CBS crime drama about something or another, filming on East Seventh Street and probably elsewhere…

Then! A new series called "Flesh and Bone" is filming where it says on the flyer …

And the plot painfully mirrors EVG's early days:

Claire, a talented but emotionally troubled dancer, joins a company in New York City, and soon finds herself immersed in the tough and often cutthroat world of professional ballet.

Except for the parts involving "Claire" and "talented" and "emotionally" and "dancer" and "professional" and "ballet."

Keep an eye out for a 'homeless' Richard Gere today

Filming continues today for "Time Out of Mind," a drama in which a homeless man (Richard Gere) tries to reconnect with his estranged daughter (Dakota Fanning).

Crews will be around parts of First Avenue between East Sixth Street and East 10th Street… Oh, just look at the sign for the film boundaries…

And here is just one photo that the Daily Mail had of Mr. Gere from the shoot last week

[Updated] First Avenue subbing for Avenue D today

[Feb. 4]

Last time that we checked in with filming for "Ten Thousand Saints," a straight-edge coming-of-age story set in the 1980s East Village, crews fashioned the exterior of 423 E. Sixth St. into "D-Squat."

So "D-Squat" subbed for C-Squat ... and this morning, as these photos from EVG reader Creature show, First Avenue at East Sixth Street is now... Avenue D (thank you EV Arrow!)

...there's also a very pre-Cemusa newsstand stand as a prop ...

Hopefully the camera won't catch Beckham's abs on the side of the tour bus to ruin that 1980s vibe...

The film is adapted from the Eleanor Henderson novel "Ten Thousand Saints." The husband-wife team of Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini direct. (They directed the 2003 Harvey Pekar film "American Splendor" with Paul Giamatti.) The cast includes Ethan Hawke.

Updated noon:

A reader note the first Ethan Hawke sighting of the day...

Film crew uses 'D Squat' and phone booths to recreate an 1980s East Village on 6th Street

Filming continues today on East Sixth Street for "Ten Thousand Saints," a straight-edge coming-of-age story set in the 1980s East Village. Crews have fashioned the exterior of 423 E. Sixth St. into "D-Squat" (filling in for C-Squat?)…

There is also a trash fire in a barrel next down in front of the late Walter De Maria's home-studio.

Meanwhile, down toward A, EVG reader Creature pointed out this relic …

There are also some sidewalk sale props in the background…

The items were authentic enough that some people came by and took things from the unattended prop sidewalk sale…

The film is adapted from the Eleanor Henderson novel "Ten Thousand Saints." The husband-wife team of Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini direct. (They directed the 2003 Harvey Pekar film "American Splendor" with Paul Giamatti.) The cast includes Ethan Hawke as one of the parents.

One reader is enthusiastic about the film adaptation, noting in the comments:

This is a movie about the mid-80s hardcore scene that had shows at CBs and Pyramid and other LES venues. It's not about screwed up people. It is about the straight edge scene (no drugs, drink) and AIDS in 80s. It is based on a fantastic book. It will mark the first time the New York Hardcore scene makes it to Hollywood. Ethan Hawke plays a cool stoner dad who takes care of his son's best friend when the son dies. Win, win, win.

Here's more about the book from NPR.

'Ten Thousand Saints' now filming in the East Village

[Photo by Bill the Libertarian Anarchist]

The low-budget adaption of the Eleanor Henderson novel "Ten Thousand Saints" has started principal photography in the East Village... crews filmed on East Ninth Street yesterday (a popular location for shoots these days) ...

A quickie plot via The Hollywood Reporter, who has more details on the production:

"'Saints' is set in New York's Lower East Side in the 1980s and is a coming-of-age story that follows three screwed-up young people and their equally screwed-up parents in the age of CBGB, yuppies and the tinderbox of gentrification that exploded into the Tompkins Square Riots.

The husband-wife team of Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini direct. (They directed the 2003 Harvey Pekar film "American Splendor" with Paul Giamatti.) The cast includes Ethan Hawke as a screwed-up parent.

Curious to see how the Tompkins Square Park Riots are depicted in the film. Maybe just via mentions from the characters? Or will the filmmakers choose to recreate part of it (and in the winter)? After all, we recently saw the return of Wigstock in the Park for a movie shoot.

Adam Sandler's 'The Cobbler' comes to the East Village this week

"The Cobbler" has been filming on the Lower East Side in recent weeks (see The Lo-Down, BoweryBoogie and DNAinfo for photos).

And now signs for the production are up on Avenue B between East Third Street and East Fourth Street (and elsewhere) for today ...

And there are more signs on Avenue B, East Seventh Street along the Park and East Eighth Street, Avenue C (and probably elsewhere!) for a Wednesday shoot...

The film, described as a "dramatic comedy," finds Adam Sandler "as a shoe repairman who integrates himself into the lives of the people whose footwear he fixes."

The cast includes Dustin Hoffman and Steve Buscemi; Tom McCarthy directs.

Don't mind the fake dead horse on the set of Steven Soderbergh's 'The Knick'

As you may have heard/read/seen/smelled yesterday, parts of Orchard Street and the Lower East Side were transformed into the early 1900s for "The Knick," a Steven Soderbergh-directed miniseries starring Clive Owen.

Perhaps our favorite photo from the shoot came via Reddit ...

You can find more photos at BoweryBoogie ... The Lo-Down ... Gothamist... and DNAinfo.

Filming continues today.

Today in photos of Louis C.K. on First Avenue and East 6th Street

Crews are out along East Sixth Street this morning to film scenes for the FX comedy series "Louie." BoweryBoogie noted that the the Emmy-Award winning comedian was back from hiatus and filming around parts of the Lower East Side yesterday... crews will also be filming around Avenue A/East Seventh Street tomorrow, per posted signs... (Pig Newton is the name of Louis C.K.'s production company.)

Season four is set to premiere sometime in May 2014, per BoweryBoogie. (And is this a good time to mention that I've never seen the show?)

Another Katie Holmes moment

Filming for "Mania Days" continued today ... now at the 6BC Botanical Garden... where EVG reader Francis Ratna happened by... we're meeting her later for a few 24-oz Natty Light cans at Vazacs...

Today in randomish Katie Holmes sightings on Avenue B

Crews for "Mania Days" are filming along Avenue B near East Fourth Street today... And EVG reader Vinny spotted co-star Katie Holmes, the former East Village resident, wearing longer-than-average denim shorts on the street ...

"Mania Days" is about a manic depressive rapper (Luke Kirby) who gets involved with a manic depressive poet (Holmes) in a passionate affair that results in a pregnancy. And likely manic depressiveness. (Spike Lee is a producer.)

The production shot scenes on Avenue A and in Tompkins Square Park back in April.

Anthology Film Archives becoming the 27th Precinct — for the 'Ironside' TV pilot

EVG reader Marjorie Ingall notes that crews will be in the neighborhood today filming part of the pilot for an "Ironside" remake with Blair Underwood in the Raymond Burr role ... as the police detective in a wheelchair...

(Side note: Don't fuck with "Ironside"!)

Apparently the show will be set in NYC and not San Francisco like the original... as part of the shoot, the exterior of the great Anthology Film Archives on Second Avenue and East Second Street will be transformed into "the 27th Precinct," according to one of the crew members...

Lordy, this all sounds so April Fool's Dayish. It is not.

Anyway, here's the show's opening credits ... from 1967...

'Orange is the New Black' filming in the East Village

Noting TV shows that are filming in the East Village isn't all that newsworthy. But! The new series "Orange is the New Black" from "Weeds" creator Jenji Kohanis is filming around here today... It's a new Netflix comedy-drama based on Piper Kerman's memoir "Orange Is The New Black: My Year In a Women's Prison."

Kind of an interesting backstory. Kerman, a Smith College graduate, spent 11 months in prison — more than a decade after the crime — for reportedly helping sorta launder money for some West African kingpin. (Read more about it all here.)

The series features Taylor Schilling, Jason Biggs and Laura Prepon. And Kerman lived in the East Village for a few years, per a reader who told us all about this in the first place.

'Winter's Tale' filming today around Cooper Square; Russell Crowe alert

So this is filming today...

'Winter's Tale' ... described by IMDB as: "A fantasy story set in 19th Century and present-day Manhattan and revolves around a thief, a dying girl, and a flying white horse" by Academy Award-winning writer Akiva Goldsman...

There's a big cast that includes Russell Crowe, Will Smith, William Hurt, Jennifer Connelly, Colin Farrell, Eva Marie Saint and "Downton Abbey"'s Jessica Brown Findlay.... Not sure who will be filming around Cooper Union today...

Filming has also taken place in Sandy-ravaged Red Hook, where some residents have grumbled about the shoot delaying the clean-up process, per Page Six.

TV guide: 'Smash' at Saxon + Parole; 'Elementary' on East Eighth Street

Let's see, crews from NBC's "Smash" will be all over the Bowery today...

...including a set inside Saxon + Parole at Bleecker...

...Meanwhile, the new CBS series "Elementary" (a modern-day Sherlock Holmes living in NYC) is filming on a few side streets between Avenue B and Avenue C ... and as Bobby Williams notes, crews are setting up for a scene at 337 E. Eighth St.

There are probably 5-6 other shoots around today that we're missing, so...

On the 'Blue Bloods' set: Waiting for Tom, hangin' with Donnie

As you may have noticed, crews are around to film scenes for the CBS series "Blue Bloods," which stars Tom Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg...

[EVG via Twitter]

EVG reader Jake sent along these photos from East 10th Street between Avenue A and First Avenue... No Selleck, but Donnie W. made an appearance...

Somewhere in the middle there.

Have you seen 'Eleanor Rigby'?

As you may have noticed, crews for "The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby" have (and will be!) filming in part of the neighborhood all week, not to mention next Monday... The sign above lists where all the trucks and stuff will be...

As for the film, per IndieWire:

Slowly shaping up to be one of the more unique productions this year, “The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby” has gradually acquired a talented cast fit for its two-film premise — that of a troubled marriage told, in each installment, from the husband and the wife's perspective. A few weeks back Jessica Chastain and James McAvoy were locked in as the couple, and now a slew of new names have come up just as the film heads into shooting.

Other cast members include Viola Davis, Bill Hader, Isabelle Huppert and William Hurt.

Reminders: Say hi to Ben Stiller today!

As we posted and stuff last week, Ben Stiller's remake of "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" will be filming around here today... on East 10th Street between Avenue C and Avenue D and elsewhere in the immediate vicinity... (If you see him, then don't ask about a possible "Along Came Polly" sequel!)

Also, wonder if the studio found a kid to play Kristen Wiig's son yet...

[Updated] Not an April Fool's gag: 'The Carrie Diaries' filming on the Bowery and Bond today

So... "Sex and the City" prequel "The Carrie Diaries" follows Carrie Bradshaw during her senior year of high school during the early 1980s and subsequent move to New York... And it will be a series on the CW... and today, crews are on the Bowery and Bond Street to film scenes for the show... [Updated: Crews are also on Astor Place and Lafayette]

...and the crew brought in some early 80s classics for the shoot...

And did Ian Schrager OK these clunkers to be parked so close to 40 Bond?

Updated 3:01 p.m.

Cars aren't the only retro parts of the shoot... here are extras on Lafayette that Organizing the Soup spotted...

At least we think they're extras.
