[Updated] Checking in on the Shepard Fairey mural on 11th Street and 1st Avenue

Here's how it's looking this morning, via a photo by EVG reader JG... Fairey started work on it Wednesday... it appears as if there's a little more to go, delayed by the rainy/windy weather.

Updated 3:30 p.m.

DNAinfo has more details on the mural, which is an image of Fairey's daughter when she was 3 years old. (She is now 11.)

"The title of the piece is 'Rise Above,' and its meant to be an uplifting image, a positive image to make people smile or to make New Yorkers look up," said Wayne Rada of the Little Italy Street Art (L.I.S.A.) Project.

[Updated] The return of an MCA memorial mural

This past weekend the above outline for an MCA/RIP mural arrived on Seventh Street just west of First Avenue. (Not sure at the moment if this is the final product or just the start...)

Back in May, someone vandalized the MCA mural created by @cramcept at this spot.

Adam Yauch, aka MCA of the Beastie Boys, died of cancer on May 4 2012. He was 47.

Updated 7:30 p.m.

This is the work of @cramcept,who will be working on the mural this week...

A #lovewall for St. Mark's Place

Earlier today, British-born artist James Goldcrown painted a mural of hearts on the side of Foot Gear Plus on St. Mark's Place at First Avenue...(he created a similar #lovewall earlier this year outside L'asso on Mott and Kenmare)...

Per his Instagram account, the hearts are for Paris...

A new mural and beer store on 2nd Avenue and East 6th Street

Billy the Artist started a new mural on the northeast corner of Second Avenue and Sixth Street on Friday...alongside the former Spice space...

A business called Lions BeerStore is in the works here, per the sign on the gate.

The website advertised takes you to a store that "is the brand name for combining high end beers, casual dining and bistro style." There is currently another location in the Greek port city of Thessaloniki.

As we understand it, the store will sell beer to go... as well as offer room inside for draft beers and food. Passersby have reported people out front collecting signatures .. ahead of October's CB3/SLA committee meeting.

And here's the look at the final mural yesterday...

And we hear that two of the panels are already missing since Saturday night...

A mural for 7th and B

As previously noted, GRIMACE and Pablo Ancona started working Saturday on a collaborative mural on East Seventh Street at Avenue B (commissioned by the building's co-op board)…

Derek Berg caught the work at the very beginning…

… and yesterday afternoon, Stacie Joy stopped by for an update…

… and a look at the finished work…

A splash of color for East 7th Street

This weekend on East Seventh Street at Avenue B, two muralists, GRIMACE and Pablo Ancona, are working on a collaborative piece ... which should be finished tomorrow...

Several readers wondered if this was something to distract people from those Theory ads (for the Gansevoort Street shop) that arrived in the window of Jillery this past week...

From St. Mark's Place to 'Moonbeam City'

EVG TV Show Mural correspondent Steven has been watching the progress along the wall outside Footgear Plus on First Avenue at St. Mark's Place... where work started on an ad for the new Comedy Central animated series "Moonbeam City," a sendup of 1980s cop shows, back on Wednesday (above)...

... and here's a look at the final product... an ode to the art-deco stylings of Patrick Nagel...

A mural for Ben Shaoul's Bloom 62, which is no longer for sale

Several readers pointed out that a mural went up on the wall Thursday at Bloom 62, the 81-unit rental building on Avenue B at East Fifth Street.

Here's another view… via @SquareMusings

Anyone happen to know the name of the artist? Thank you in the comments… The artist is Ludo … and it was for the Lo Man Art Festival.

MeanwhileBack in March we reported that landlord Ben Shaoul put Bloom 62 on the market … with an $80 million asking price for the former Cabrini Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Now, according to The Real Deal, Shaoul "opted not to sell – and instead secured $63 million in recapitalization financing." So Shaoul is here to stay…

Os Gêmeos on 2nd Avenue

If you been walking on Second Avenue near East First Street, then you've likely seen the new mural going up next to the former BP station on the corner.

As BoweryBoogie noted yesterday, this is the work of the Brazilian twins Os GêmeosGoggla shared the above photo from yesterday… we walked by earlier this morning, and they were just starting work…

… and a view from the cherry picker…

A video posted by osgemeos (@osgemeos) on

A 10-story retail-resident complex has dibs on the former BP property.

P.S.
There is a new mural going up at Bloom 62 on Avenue B as well… will post about that later. Update: That post is here. (Ditto for the new mural on East Third Street next to the shelter.)

A new mural on 12th and C that addresses gender-based street harassment

Brooklyn-based illustrator/painter Tatyana Fazlalizadeh created a new mural yesterday on East 12th Street at Avenue C ...

It's part of her ongoing project titled "Stop Telling Women to Smile," where, as the Huffington Post describes it, "Fazlalizadeh places portraits of women in public spaces, encouraging victims of gender-based street harassment to fight back."

Find more of her work on her website. And here's more about Fazlalizadeh in the Times last year ... and NPR in 2013.

Thanks to Robert Galinsky for the photos...

Noted

Greg Matherly at Reciprocal Skateboards passes along these photos of a new mural that has arrived on East 11th Street (alongside Eleven Consignment Boutique) at First Avenue ...

Not quite sure what it is from the photos... but apparently the guys in the Halal truck on the corner like it...

Mystery surrounds faceless cartoon mural on East 12th Street

On East 12th Street near First Avenue.

Last week! (Above!)

Yesterday!

A source will only reveal that the mural will be of a "beloved bald cartoon character."

Well, Ziggy is too short… so it has to be Henry, right?

Updated: Thanks to everyone who confirmed this is the work of street artist Jerkface.

You're a good mural, Charlie Brown

This mural/ad started going up on East 12th Street near First Avenue yesterday… (And that is Charlie Brown, right? Looks like the lone shirt that he owns.)

East 3rd Street mural blinded by the restoration

[March 2011]

The above mural arrived on East Third Street between Second Avenue and the Bowery back in March 2011... on the wall adjacent to the Project Renewal facility.

If you've been over this way in the past week or so, then you likely noticed that workers have been patching up the side of the building where the mural resides...

Now with a rather creepy look...

And by yesterday, that rough patch over the eyes had been smoothed over and painted …

Anyone recall who the artist is?

Birds of a feather on St. Mark's Place

EVG reader Shaun Stewart shared this photo of a new mural that went up on the south side of St. Mark's Place between Avenue A and First Avenue.

Anyone know who the artist is? The mural went up on Monday.

And find more of Shaun's photos on his Tumblr, NYC City Graffiti Fishing.

Updated 4:38 p.m.

Thanks to Bucky Turco at Animal NY for letting us know that the artist is DALeast.

You are no longer welcome!

Oh! Just noticed that the Welcome to the East Village/Modelo ad on East 12th Street at Avenue A has been blacked out…

The wall previously displayed an ad for the new season of the HBO television program "Girls."

Given that this appears to be an ad wall now … what ad would you like to see next? (Serious responses are OK.)
