Kyuramen bringing ramen to 210 E. 14th St.

Kyuramen, a Taiwan-based ramen chain with 120 locations worldwide, is the new tenant for 210 E. 14th St. between Second Avenue and Third Avenue. (First reported by the Commercial Observer.)

This marks only the second U.S. Kyuramen outpost, joining the one in Flushing.

This arrival also marks the third ramen chain to set up shop in the East Village this year, joining Strings Ramen on Second Avenue at 12th Street and Sanpoutei Gyoza & Ramen, which remains closed for now on Second Avenue near Fifth Street.

Chickpea was the last tenant at 210 E. 14th St., closing in April 2018.

A quick entrance and exit for O Ramen & Dim Sum M on 9th Street

After just two weeks, O Ramen & Dim Sum M has closed up for now here at 350 E. Ninth St. just west of First Avenue.

Word along the block: Business was nearly non-existent, and the owners decided to shut down for a few months. They'll apparently try again when the food market might not be so brutal.

The previous tenant, beQu Juice, closed here last November after nearly six years in business.

Ramen and dim sum for 9th Street

It was signage day yesterday over at 350 E. Ninth St. just west of First Avenue... where workers made the new restaurant official — a ramen-dim sum shop... not sure at the moment what the exact name is... O Ramen Dim Sum M?

The previous tenant, beQu Juice, closed here last November after nearly six years in business. Until 2012, 9th St. Bakery had been in this storefront since 1926.

Thanks to Steven for the photos!

'Since 2020' — Gorin Ramen debuts on 14th Street

Gorin Ramen opens today (Jan. 2!) over at 351 E. 14th St. at First Avenue... the rather cheeky signage notes "Since 2020" ...

No sign of a menu yet online ... the restaurant has an account on Instagram and Facebook, though they have yet to post anything.

This space previously housed Kambi Ramen House, which closed in July 2018 after 10 years in service. The Kambi family also operates the popular Minca Ramen Factory on Fifth Street near Avenue B.

Strings Ramen vying for 188 2nd Ave.

There looks to be another ramen choice on the horizon.

The applicants behind Strings Ramen will appear before CB3's SLA committee meeting tonight for a liquor license for 188 Second Ave.

According to the questionnaire on file at the CB3 website, the proprietors were previously involved with the now-closed Lotus Blue Dongtian Kitchen and Bar on Union Square West. This location was part of an international chain with spots in Beijing, Shanghai and Sydney, per Eater. (There's no mention if this is part of Strings Ramen, a popular destination with two locations in Chicago and one in Madison, Wis. Only mention this since popular ramen shops in other cities have expanded here in the past year.)

Per the questionnaire, the 45-seat restaurant here at 12th Street will have daily hours of noon to 10 p.m.

No one has had much luck with restaurants at 188 Second Ave. in recent years. Lumos Kitchen lasted a whole three months in 2018. Others to make quick departures in the past four years were Hot Pot Central, DumplingGuo and Dumpling Go.

Shima had a good go of it here until January 2014...

Tonight's CB3 meeting starts at 6:30 in the Perseverance House Community Room, 535 E. Fifth St. between Avenue A and Avenue B.

Veteran of hit L.A. ramen shop behind new noodle venture at 131 Avenue A

A Japanese restaurant is coming to 131 Avenue A between St. Mark's Place and Ninth Street.

Applicants representing an LLC called Ays Noodle Company have applied for a beer-wine license for the former Baci e Vendetta space.

The restaurant is TabeTomo.

The applicants are on tonight's CB3-SLA agenda, though this item won't be heard in front of the committee.

There are also renderings of the interior on the front doors...

According to the questionnaire on file at the CB3 website (PDF here), Tabetomo will be open daily from 11 a.m. to midnight. The questionnaire lists eight tables to accommodate 24 diners. There's also a 15-seat bar.

The applicant, Tomotsugu Kubo per the CB3 questionnaire, has management experience at the popular Tsujita LA Artisan Noodle, which apparently serves "life-changingly good" tonkotsu ramen and tsukemen, and the Tsujita LA Artisan Noodles ANNEX ... both in Los Angeles.

No word on menu items for Avenue A just yet.

This is the second L.A. ramen transplant to venture into the East Village this summer. Tatsu Ramen, with two locations in Los Angeles, opened its first NYC outpost last month at 167 First Ave.

Baci e Vendetta closed at 131 Avenue A in March after nearly 16 months in service. Nic Ratner, a partner in Baci e Vendetta, told me that business for the Italian cafe wasn't sustainable with only a beer-and-wine license.

This space was the 10 Degrees Bistro until the fall of 2015 ... and the Flea Market Cafe before that.

Hunan Slurp Shop coming to former Ricky's space on 1st Avenue

The coming-soon signage is up at 112 First Ave., where Hunan Slurp Shop will presumably be serving rice noodles here between Seventh Street and Sixth Street...

Not sure who's behind the venture just yet. (Has a familiar ring to Ivan Ramen Slurp Shop in the Gotham West Market.)

The retail listing for No. 112 mentioned a garden. So perhaps the Slurp Shop will have seating out there.

The storefront was previously a Ricky's, which closed in April 2016.

Before Ricky's, the space was home until 2007 to Miracle Grill. The restaurant's garden space was where the residential building is now at 92 E. Seventh St. (No. 92, which was the salon connected to Ricky's, appears to still be for rent as a separate storefront.)

East Noodle & Izakaya has apparently closed on Second Avenue

Well, yeah... it hasn't looked open lately... The phone is temporarily disconnected... and there are piles of trash bags inside the restaurant, as you might be able to see from this photo...

If memory serves (usually not), this was the second ramen place to try the location of the former Love Saves the Day... a renovation that brought out some anti-ramen graffiti and tiresome daily blog updates by one local blogger.

Love Saves the Day closed on Jan. 18, 2009, after 42 years in business.

The ramenators continue the branding process

The folks at May Chan Ramen & Robatayaki on Second Avenue and Seventh Street (the former Love Saves the Day location) have introduced a new logo for its charmless brown storefront and bricked-up windows...

Flashback to this spot last year...

Corner restaurants popular for film shoots today (and probably other days...)

We have the low-budget "Hated" at Life on 10th Street and Avenue B...(Assuming that it's not about GG...)

...and HBO's "How to Make it in America" at the ramenators at the former Love Saves the Day location on Seventh Street and Second Avenue.

The ramenators are ready to ramenate next week

The new ramen place on Second Avenue at Seventh Street is nearly complete. No trace of LSD remains. (Not that I expected a tribute...) The paper is off the windows...and at least 30 restaurant workers in uniform were inside prepping food, etc. I asked someone when they'd be open, and he replied, "Next week." Looks like it will be open in 10 minutes. Perhaps they'll be serving "family and friends" this weekend.

Anti-ramen graffiti remains at former Love Saves the Day spot

Back in May, we noted some graffiti left behind by someone who, perhaps, didn't care much for the new ramen place coming to the former Love Saves the Day location at Second Avenue and Seventh Street.

Since then, we've continued to keep tabs on the progress of the renovation. On Thursday, we noted the removal of the plywood.

Oddly enough, though... most of the graffiti was left up...

Ramenification of Love Saves the Day continues

Yesterday morning, we noted the new plywood surrounding the former Love Saves the Day store on Second Avenue at Seventh Street... Now one of the last remaining bits of the former shop was removed -- the tiled Love Saves the Day sign above the storefront...

Here's how it looks now...

Also, as the Graffiti Friend of EV Grieve (GFOEVG) noted, the plywood covered two tags by longtime NYC graffiti artists, SEN4 and KAY2... their fate will soon be sealed under several coats of paint along with the rest of the colorful LSD façade...

Beer and wine for May

The dismantling of the old Love Saves the Day location on Second Avenue and Seventh Street continues. Meanwhile, as Jeremiah reported, the space is becoming something called May Chan Ramen. On April 20, they'll be going before the CB3's SLA & DCA Licensing Committee for a beer and wine permit.
