CB3 says no to Table 12's sidewalk booze

I couldn't attend tonight's CB3/SLA meeting due to a work commitment.... However, a reader chimed in with news that the committee (only four were there) rejected Table 12's request to serve beer and wine at their sidewalk cafe, which debuted back on Avenue A and 12th Street in late May...



To be honest, I'd want to drink if I had to sit here too....

And so much for my scoop that an ice cream shop was opening here at the former Pizzanini space! My source was wrong...

Avenue A mystery bar/restaurant off tonight's CB3 docket

For me, one of the most interesting items on the CB3/SLA docket was:

10. Corp to be Formed, 150 E 2nd St (wb) (aka: 24 Ave A)

As you recall, Frank Prisinzano, who owns EV Italian empire Frank, Lil' Frankie's and Supper, came before the CB3/SLA committee on June 14 with his plans to turn the former grocery at 24 Avenue A and Second Street into what he described as fast-food Italian. The board never approved the application.

Anyway, the future of this corner inspired some spirited debate hereabouts. (78 comments or so.) Read some of that here.

So is someone else looking to take over the former Graceland space (and not a bank or 7-Eleven then!)? Plus, 24 Avenue A was Graceland's address; 150 Second St. is the address of Nicky's and the former barber shop next door. More mystery!

I asked district manager Susan Stetzer about this "corp to be formed." She said that she wasn't sure on this one — she didn't pursue because the application was withdrawn.

Anyway, it appears the real-estate listing for this space is still active.

Booze-infused milkshakes ... The Bond Street Swizzle.... Purple Lady ... Jamaican Bug Juice ... Corn N' Oil ...

The JOEY RAMONE?!?!? With apple brandy, lime juice and concord grape juice (or concord grape wine??). I don't get it.

Anyway, the reader also noted that the food is really good at Peels.

Hmm... been more discussion on this than I anticipated.... And one reader thinks this makes sense since Peels is on the corner of the Bowery and Second Street — aka Joey Ramone Place.

City shutters Bull McCabe's backyard garden

An EV Grieve tipster reports that the city has temporarily shuttered the back garden at Bull McCabe's on St. Mark's Place...




According to the tipster, residents who live above the back garden had complained about incessant smoking from the bar's patrons...

Sea Salt still preserved

Back in March, we noted the rather eerie scene inside the former Sea Salt space on Second Avenue two-plus years after it shuttered.... workers have been puttering around inside of late ... and EV Grieve reader Alice caught a glimpse of this table... set for the ghosts of Sea Salt's past, perhaps....

SCENE: Sexy rock chicks too young to know a lot of the ’80s tunes they’re hearing lounge about on Gothic-style furniture. Co-owners Luke Brian Sosnowski and Timothy Falzone keep Maroon 5 off the playlist, and the scene lasts very, very late. Those who remember Chelsea’s defunct rock club Snitch will dig this scene, especially when bands play surprise shows. People who look like East Villagers circa 2000 will get in easily; those who discovered the ’hood post-Starbucks may find themselves left out.
CROWD: Fashion Week saw plenty of wayward models and late-night stragglers coming from events like the John Varvatos/Original Moonshine whiskey launch party.
BOOZE: A bottle of Stoli is $350, but rarely ordered and not a ticket for admission. The specialty cocktail is a $9 Jack Daniel’s honeycomb lemon mix. Beers range from $4 to $7.
PROS: Has the potential to get trippy and wild.
CONS: First-time operators may struggle to maintain control.
