While searching for the Cafe Hanover listing... I came across another one... a listing that may leave a few people dismayed...
We were just talking about Orologio in the comments here. From Cookiepuss: "Orologio is a real local place too with its bohemian decor, warm vibe and affordable pricing."

I thought it had already been sold because a couple of months ago they ditched the entire wait staff, including the super nice Hungarian waitress, as well as the bell boy and brought in all new people. Does anyone have the inside scoop on why they got rid of all of their staff?
i was told, several years ago, that they were doing badly and were closing.
too bad.
what's going to remain here that isn't a bar or club?
perhaps we need another pizza place on avenue a - or seriously, another ramen spot?
oh man this is terrible, i love this place. tried to go on halloween and it was closed.. was hoping it was just an anomaly. their black and white pasta was the BEST. and such nice people. Orologio will be sorely missed!!!
They've been there for a really long time what a shame. I actually would like to eat there in the dead of winter, glass of wine bowl of pasta,
quiet no yuppies.
I hope that they will sell it to someone who actually cares about the neighborhood but I'm cynical when it comes to the fate of this restaurant!
As you can see the rent is high and the business is a lot of money,
so what could possibly end up here?
In nearly 9 years in the hood I never was drawn to drop in to this spot, so I'm not going to miss it.
I'm sad to hear this. My wife and I used to frequent Orologio all the time back in the 06/07 timeframe. Sometime in late 07 they seemed to change management or ownership, and the service became surly and slow and the food quality declined, so we stopped going there.
Over the past year, we had started going back and the service had improved, as had the food. We always appreciated the atmosphere and the good price/value.
I'm sorry to see it close.
Well living right next to it for over a decade I only went once and ordered in 2 times and it was so salty.. I may be the one person to say anything about not sorry to see it go.. I would walk my dogs past there daily. One of my dogs was so well behaved she rarely needed a leash- we would joke that dogs thought their door propped-open on to Ave A from the Kitchen was the door to dog heaven- they had food and small dishes ON THE FLOOR quite often. Laid out in trays these small and large dishes were always right there on the floor right by the door that any hopeful pup at the right moment could peek in and get a snout full of cheese and sauce and some kinda meat entree. YES so my girl dog was an illegal off the leash but seriously? A nice dog poking her nose in the propped open door has tray of dishes on the very ground right there for anybody to lick? What's a dog to do? If it wasn't her then it might be a mouse or a shoe.. just seemed ODD to lay human food on the floor for any period of time. We would never go after that. Maybe it's some sad fact food lays on the ground in front of open doors everywhere but its gross to actually see it. The one time we did go and eat in before this discovery it was so salty, the bread stale. Sorry but I would mourn a neighborhood place leaving if they were GOOD. To me their habits and food were not. Give a new place a chance, just hope they don't need to be rockstar wannabe-wankers like Polonia's new kids.
I am so thoroughly bummed about this. My family and I have gone to Orlogio since it opened years ago. The owner of Cafe Pick Me Up runs owns it but he lives abroad now (or so I learned).
And I LOVED the Hungarian waitress. We knew her for years and were shocked when we ate there recently and learned that she was let go. WTF!!
maybe frankie can open his fast-food italian here instead of in the old gracefully space?
i'd seriously prefer "italian boy" in either space vs. what else might await...
Dont care if this place goes. Their staff was surly and indifferent and outside of their Pizzas they were overpriced. As for Ant never eating there Who Gives a fuck. I wouldnt be seen dead in any place that cretin patronized. (Burrito Loco, maybe?)
