Given the news that the
Holland Bar may be closed for good, it's time to tip our hat to some of the
like-minded bars in the city. (Dive bars. Lonely old man bars.
Whatever you prefer!) Such as the well-traveled
Subway Inn.

the pizza place next door to the subway inn is pretty good too. and there's also another bar nearby on lexington between 60-61 on the west side of the street north of the diesel store.
my favorite bar was mare chiaro in little italy before they renovated.
made a mistake about the bar on lexington. i'm thinking of gino's restaurant which is pretty cool too.
Thanks for the comment...Yes! I loved Mare Chiaro too before the renovation...It still has its charms.
And Gino is a classic. Small bar. But I love any place that still has a 50s-style phone booth.
Yup, that's the Subway. Nice pictures.
Thanks for the hook up
There's a new documentary about Gino's called The Missing Ingredient: What is the Recipe for Success? For anybody that went there over the years and has fond memories, it's a great trip down memory lane.
