Say high to the latest retail tenant at this 2nd Avenue storefront

Signage is up now for the new tenant at 97 Second Ave. — Hi Society, a cannabis shop. (And why not High Society? There is already an online weed delivery service by that name in NYC.)
The arrival comes as New York State started taking new measures to crack down on unlicensed cannabis shops last month ... with the Office of Cannabis Management able to fine the establishments $10,000 per day; $20,000 if sales persist.

There are at least four regulated, licensed dispensaries in the immediate area.

The address here between Fifth Street and Sixth Street was the laundromat Launderette for years until 2014. Recent ventures include several hot pot restaurants... and a pick-up spot for the grocery delivery company Getir.

Let's see how long it takes for the cops to bust ths place. After all, the precinct house is literally half a block away.

Wonder what the owners are smoking, to put $$$ into opening a blatantly illegal location at a time like this. I find this bewildering; seems like it would be money right down the drain. Feel free to enlighten me, fellow readers.

Well they still haven’t closed any of the shops in the party zones below Houston - so they can probably make some money before they get shut down.

Only FOUR legal dispensaries! Whatever…

The police raided 5 or 6 shops on first ave between St Marks and 13th St when the crackdown began. Within 3 or 4 days all but one was restocked and reopened. Whatever law was passed has no teeth.

Ha — it used to be a 'Hot Pot' restaurant, and it lost the 'Hot' prefix.
The owner said they've applied for a license. Seems silly to put all that effort in not to so.
