A group led by hospitality vet Ronan Downs, whose numerous NYC credits include Becketts Bar & Grill in the Financial District, is behind this Avenue A project. (Here's a PDF of their July 2022 questionnaire on the CB3 website.)
According to the State Liquor Authority, the liquor license is still pending for the address, though the owners did receive a "Conditional Approval Letter" last week.
No word on an opening date. There is an Instagram account here.
And some of you might recall No-Tell Motel, a scene-y bar via Deb Parker at 167 Avenue A (now Mama Fina's) between 10th Street and 11th Street that closed in the early 1990s.

That building is a completely different aesthetic and I love it!

"No-tell motel" is a joke we were telling (ha) when we were kids. Can't really say anyone owns it.
Also...nothing against the original, but today's EV bros and broettes don't remember bars from the 90s. Some of them won't even have been born yet...and now I have to go lie down and take a Geritol or something.
Percy’s went under because they served bottled beer for full price with no Happy Hour while Drop Off Service has international full pints of draft beer for $3. The elderly MAGA crowd were also unfriendly, all the patrons and bartenders scowled at anyone who walked in. This new place should at least have a Happy Hour if they want to remain open, but the new signage does look Tacky.
If they were calling it Joey JoJo Shabadoo's it couldn't be a worse name.
Foundation Missing would have been a far more appropriate name given the shape NYC is in today. With maybe a VIP room called Hell in a Handbasket.
I lived on that block in 2020-2022 and the blondies place never opened- they build a massive and very fancy looking dining shed, and did a big refurbishment that looked very expensive, lots of gorgeous looking furniture, never opened- the next thing I knew it was boarded up and the dining shed ripped down- anyone know what that was all about?

Maybe bring back “ The Library “? Or “ stumble on inn”? While in college in a state on the other coast my freshman roommate and I made a pact to go to every scummy bar in the town ( or small city). Every Tuesday was scummy bar night. But I think this new place rearranged the name. I don’t remember.

The disaster continues: another bar in our completely over-saturated community. Neither the state, the city, and certainly not the “hospitality veterans “ care about our quality of life.
At first, I thought this was the No-Tell Motel re-opening. I loved that place back in the day!
How about Mid Town Morgue? Glad to see it open. Few bars anymore where you can sit and have a good burger. Even a regular old cheap Greek Diner would be appreciated. Bring life back to the hood- aqua is the bomb!
