Two side-by-side businesses have closed at 93 E. Seventh St. just east of First Avenue.
Door signage states that Baonanas, which offers its take on banana pudding and other desserts, "is closed until TBD."
Their neighbor to the west, 7th Street Burger, is selling half-pints of their desserts.
Real-life couple Trisha Villanueva and Lloyd Ortuoste started Baonanas in Jersey City in 2014... and debuted here in the spring of 2022.
Meanwhile, in the storefront to the east, 75 Degrees Cafe & Bakery has officially closed...
A note on the door states, "Unfortunately, our time in the East Village has come to an end..."
The business, described as a "modern Japanese-inspired cafe," opened in November 2021.

I thought I’d read somewhere that 7th St burger purchased the banana shop? Cannot find the reference, so might be making that up.

brutal. bao was awesome. 7th st burger is a stain on the block. 75 C didn't have that much appeal. hope burger place doesn't expand. they lower the quality of life. non stop calling out names on the street. what a hassle for residents. people double parking all the time. weekends in particular

I enjoyed 7th Street Burger when they opened during the summer of 2021. Cool staff. Very affordable. It was easy to pass by, walk in, place your order, and leave within ten minutes. Now, it is anarchy. That area is besieged with people from NJ and outer boroughs, and college kids, many whom are inebriated, who are loud, disrespectful, and oblivious to fellow neighbors such as my friend who lives one door down, not to mention an hour + wait from Thursday to Saturday to actually get a burger. And there is a lingering scent of meat and oil on that block now. I won't go in anymore. I also wish Bao was still there too.
Thats a real bummer about bao, they were excellent. I actually thought their banana pudding was better than Magnolia. Hope they reopen somewhere else in the EV. I actually thought about dropping by last week but didn't. Wish i did now.
@annony 10:41 - how is this 7th streets burger fault? If anything, it helped more foot traffic to these neighboring businesses because people were always dropping by. And, sorry to break to ya, but 7th street burger has about 10 other locations around the city lmao and more on the way... may want to do a little research.
10:41 meant he hoped the burger join won't expand into the closed shops next door.
Also, of all their locations, this one is the only one which is unpleasant and rowdy, a club house pit stop for bridge and tunnel weekend warriors.
This night "foot traffic" doesn't help any neighboring business.

Well if 7th street expands into that space isn’t that a good thing? Means more seating available and you won’t hear as much screaming outside. I’ve seen several other 7th street burger crowds late at night, especially the one on macdougal. Well it doesn’t help nor is it hurting their business if it’s late at night does it? If they’re not open it doesn’t affect them. But during the day such as lunch crowds on weekends it certainly did help them

Baonana missed out on that great Bao fad in the '10s. We had Baoguette, Baohaus, Bao Down Before the One You Serve, etc. I might have made that last one up but you get the drift.
