The spot is a new vegan concept from mother and son restaurateurs Brenda "Chef B" Beener and Aaron Beener, who closed their Harlem restaurant Seasoned Vegan this spring after nine years in service.
According to a restaurant rep, they decided to relaunch as quick service takeout and delivery with a few of their most popular dishes offered as sandwiches.
Per the rep:
The offerings draw on the family's New Orleans roots and feature three sandwiches, including two made with their unique signature grilled burdock root "crawfish" — Craw Pretzel Boy with remoulade sauce, a vegan take on the crawfish po-boy on a pretzel bun, and BBQ Craw Sandwich in bayou BBQ sauce.SV Nugget Sandwich and Lemon Crusted Nuggets (soy protein) will be available as well, along with fries tossed with Cajun seasoning and housemade organic desserts: Raw Cheesecake made from cashews, walnuts and dates; Salted Pecan Chocolate Chip Cookies and cupcakes. Beverages include fair trade Maine Root organic sodas.

Note that the current signage is for a pizza shop. Tried out the Craw Pretzel Boy today. Pretty good.
I also noticed a new coffee shop "Roasted" next door; they made a solid espresso shot.

This place is fantastic—we used to frequent their prior uptown location when we lived in Harlem. I hope their EV location is a success—great food from great people!
As a long-time vegan, I'll definitely check it out. The scientific evidence for the benefits of going vegan are well articulated in Michael Gregor's book "How Not to Die." Got a copy at Strand.
Was very happy when the original location opened on St Nicholas Ave. mere steps from my home. Good people! I’ll definitely miss them as neighbors. I’m not vegan, but enjoy good food wherever it’s found. I’m not generally a fan of ‘fake meat’ veg restaurants, but happy to see the new place heavily features the burdock ‘crawfish,’ which IMHO was the best thing on their old menu.
Best of Luck Downtown. Will you please tell the new tenants on St Nicks to clean their windows as often as you did?
Hopefully they will expand their menu once they settle in. Need me some Mac and cheese. Also RIP Stage Restaurant;(
Ah yes RIP Stage but hope these guys succeed. We need more Mom & Pop (make that Mom and Son) places in our neighborhood.
Tried it tonight. Oh boy! The signature sandwich is excellent. Texture and spices are really yummy. The fries are good and I look forward to trying the other menu items.
Full disclosure: I was a diehard Stage fan and my heart breaks every day since they've been gone. The staff here seems to appreciate how loved the Stage was and gives me a good vibe. I think they can be another beloved neighborhood spot.
