We've noted some of the 1990s storefront transformation along parts of Avenue A for the Darren Aronofsky-directed crime thriller "Caught Stealing" starring Austin Butler (here ... here... and here).
The top pic shows Conor's Goat going as (the fictitious) Therline's Coffee Shop at 23 Avenue A at Second Street.
Meanwhile, here's a photo from May 1995 when Margaret's Coffee Shop was the tenant... (photo by Dyske Suematsu)...

Interesting to see Polish morph into Haitian.... is this supposed to be the East Village or Flatbush in the film??? Not really a big Haitian community in the EV...
You can just see the sign for Schneiders Baby Furniture (later WaMu, later Chase, now Fancy NY Deli, Athena's, Martial Arts & Pizza) reflecting in Margaret's window.
Getting emotional with all these old school EV looking posts. Who ever would have thought that stalwarts like these would be replaced with private equity owned coffee shops. Makes me very happy to be old enough to have experinced the EV when it was an eclectic community, pre-uberpredatory capitalist real estate developers.
Check out the appliance store sign next door...probably the one that was just replaced!
LOL NOT VERY AUTHENTIC RENDERING OF 1999
What was next door, where Berlin is today, in 1995?
