With these photos, EV Grieve reader Peter notes the continued deterioration of the Shepard Fairey mural on Houston and the Bowery... As he said, "Odd that the previous mural remained so untouched whereas Mr. Fairey's mural has seemingly been under attack since day one."
Indeed.
NYC the Blog noted the latest bout of vandalism... and counted 11 holes in the mural... Said Bucky Turco of ANIMAL last week: "At this point, unless someone lights it on fire, I really don’t care what happens to Shepard Fairey’s mural..."
He's not alone.

Shepard Fairey has his holes filled
This morning, BoweryBoogie noted the epic new holes that someone punched into Shepard Fairey's mural on Houston and the Bowery...
...and just like that, the holes have been filled...

A plaque for Shepard Fairey, and something else to tag
A new plaque went up to commemorate Shepard Fairey's mural on Houston and the Bowery... Only about six weeks after the mural went up... (And when will the plaque be defaced?)
Flashback to April 20!

Shepard Fairey's mural tagged and cleaned and tagged again ... again
I can't even keep track of this anymore... the tags are cleaned off, only to return bigger and better...

Death becomes him
Hey now. Just catching up with the Times of New York from the other day... The newspaper reviews Shepard Fairey's Deitch Projects show. And what does the reviewer think?
"On the walls of an art gallery, his efforts look like death warmed over."

Mr. Brainwash gives Shepard Fairey some love
But first... As I pointed out on Saturday, Shepard Fairey's Bowery-Houston mural got hit pretty hard ...
Now, it looks as if someone is making some progress cleaning off the mural...
...whileBanksy Mr. Brainwash checks in next door....

Shepard Fairey's Cooper Square Hotel mural tagged too
After seeing photos of the epic bombing of Shepard Fairey's Bowery/Houston mural this past weekend, a reader said that he also noticed a small tag on Shep's Cooper Square Hotel work ...
... by the time we stopped by, the small tag had been wiped mostly clean... but you can still see the outline...
...this first attempt may just be the start of Open Season here too...

Paul Richard puts up a larger sign on Shepard Fairey's mural
On Monday, we posted a video of Paul Richard hanging a sign on Shepard Fairey's Bowery/Houston mural... the sign was quickly removed...
And this past week Paul Richard put up another, larger sign, as you'll see here...
That, too, has been removed...

Shepard Fairey in Someone to watch over me
I spotted someone cleaning up some graffiti late yesterday on Shephard Fairey's mural on Houston and the Bowery...
Meanwhile, over the weekend, an EV Grieve reader said that he or she went to the Williamsburg Hall of Music ... at the venue, there's a display of Shepard Fairey's work to coincide with his current show.
Per the reader: "Get this: the venue has a separate security guard watching over them to make sure no one fucks with them. It was bizarre."
And last night, EV Grieve reader E passed along another new addition to the mural:

Watch Paul Richard install his Shepard Fairey addition
We pointed out the Paul Richard addition to the Shepard Fairey mural on the Bowery and Houston the other day....
...it has since been removed/stolen...
And now a reader sent along a link to Richard installing the sign....

Paul Richard asks that you do not tag Shepard Fairey's mural
Per an EV Grieve reader:
There's a Paul Richard tag on the Fairey mural. It's one of those Paul Richard gallery label tags, a larger one than usual, more a warning size sign. Perhaps located near the earlier hole in the Fairey mural. It says, IIRC, "Please do not graffiti the mural."
No Leviticus posters, yet.

Going to the Shepard Fairey mural, and we're going to get married...
Oh my. In case you haven't seen this shot that Jill posted on Blah Blog Blah... On their wedding day, a couple apparently stopped to have photos taken in front of the illegal (maybe!) Shepard Fairey mural on Houston and the Bowery...
There's so much I want to know. Was this a planned stop? Or were they just motoring by in the Bride Mobile and spontaneously decided tocombust stop? Or did the happy couple drive all over the city and have their photos taken in front of things, like the Kiss Mural outside Nice Guy Eddie's? (Now THAT is romantic!)
On a Sunday (Blah Blog Blah)

Shepard Fairey's Houston-Bowery mural is illegal, maybe
The DOB slapped a Stop Work Order on the Shepard Fairey mural on Houston and the Bowery... As AnimalNY noted, there are two options: obtain the proper permits for the "small building" or tear it down.
Here's a shot of the structure on the corner before Fairey's work went up...
Anyway, as an AnimalNY commenter commented..."its funny, that means no repairs to any damage like holes or torn off panels the guy who tossed bricks at it should go back, stop work order means no repairs under threat of criminal charges. you can only do emergency work if there is danger and with approval from the DOB."
So will the mural be vandalized again in the short term?
