What is the City going to do about Delancey?

Per the Daily News on Aug. 1:

Crossing Delancey is taking your life in your hands.

In the last dozen years, there have been 523 motor vehicle accidents at the intersection of Essex and Delancey Sts. - 134 involving pedestrians and bicyclists - according to figures for 1998 to 2010 obtained from the state Department of Transportation.

Three people died.

Mendez & Chin should spend more time on legislation and working on practical solutions rather than Tweeting. Of course Stringer has no real function other than cutting ribbons at ceremonies so I guess it's his job to get in a soundboite when a tregedy happens.

This is just awful news. One thing they could do is drastically lower the speed limit. It's like crossing a highway!

i am sick of people asking if these things are the bicyclist's fault. if a soldier dies in battle, is it his fault? only if you consider that if he hadn't joined the army, he would not have died. we need to keep cars and trucks as far away from bikes and pedestrians as possible. if the politicians tell you they can't make the roads safer, they are you.
