The Ainsworth closes East Village location

That's all for the Ainsworth on the SW corner of Third Avenue and 11th Street. (Thanks to Steven for the photos.)

The upscale sports bar, part of a mini chain, closed after service on Sunday.

Per the door signage, they'll be merging with the Chelsea outpost later this summer...
The EV Ainsworth opened in December 2017

Previously, this corner space was home to Village Pourhouse, the pub-crawling hosting hotspot ... for 11 years.

And all together now — bring back the Roll-n-Roaster!

Bibi Wine Bar takes a winter break

Bibi Wine Bar is the latest local establishment to go on hibernation with the indoor dining ban and colder weather setting in ... the cafe on Fourth Street between Avenue A and Avenue B closed after service on Saturday... when Stacie Joy took these photos...
Bibi Wine Bar was able to reopen in June with outdoor seating... then with limited indoor service at the end of September. Despite that little bit of normalcy, they launched a crowdfunding campaign to help them get through this. (They have reached nearly $4,700 of their $6,000 goal as of this morning.)

According to their fundraiser: "We plan on reopening ASAP, but certain things need to align to make that happen, and there is a good chance it won't be until the weather warms up enough to get outdoor dining going again (March?!?)."

In other hibernation news.... multiple readers shared photos from the southwest corner of 11th Street and Third Avenue, where high-end sports bar chain the Ainsworth went dark at the start of the year... the corner bar has been boarded up, as this photo by Steven shows...
And EVG reader Doug shared these pics...
The Ainsworth's ample curbside dining setup remains in place...
There's no word about any kind of closure on the Ainsworth website or social media properties. They did not respond to requests for comment about their plans.

Ainsworth eyes former DBGB space on the Bowery; Ruffian team to the Eddy

Here's a quick look at several more of the applicants on tonight's CB3-SLA committee meeting docket. These are existing East Village operators looking to expand...

• Ainsworth to the Bowery

Ainsworth, the growing chainlet of upscale sports bars, has applied for a new liquor license for 299 Bowery in the Avalon Bowery complex between First Street and East Houston Street. (Questionnaire here.)

This outpost of Ainsworth (there's also one on Third Avenue at 11th Street) will be open for lunch and make use of the sidewalk cafe that DBGB tried to muster enthusiasm for.

DBGB closed here nearly two years ago, with chef-owner Daniel Boulud citing "erratic" patronage on this corridor during the week. Perhaps Ainsworth, a SantaCon hotspot, can bring in a steady stream of patrons.

• Ruffian Wine Bar owners taking the Eddy space on Sixth Street

In a sale of assets, the owners of Ruffian on Seventh Street between Avenue A and First Avenue plan to open an "American/Italian" restaurant called Kindred here between First Avenue and Second Avenue. (Questionnaire here.)

The Eddy closed last month after five-plus years at the address.

• The Woodstock in the works for 99 Third Ave.

The owners of The VNYL across the Avenue here between 12th Street and 13th Street have plans for a Neapolitan pizzeria called the Woodstock for this address. (Questionnaire here.)

The previous occupant, Thaimee Table, was seized by the Marshal in early May.

Tonight's CB3-SLA committee is at the Perseverance House Community Room, 535 E. Fifth St. between Avenue A and Avenue B.

The DOH temporarily closes the Ainsworth on 3rd Avenue (again)

Updated 8/29: The Ainsworth is back open.

Several EVG readers, via email and on Twitter (h/t @JCooper911), pointed out that the Ainsworth East Village on Third Avenue and 11th Street was closed over the weekend ... which coincided with a DOH inspection on Friday.

The note on the front door, which covers the DOH's yellow closure sticker, states that they are closed for maintenance to get "the place ready for football season!"

The DOH temporarily sidelined the EV Ainsworth back in February. According to public records at the time, inspectors issued 86 violation points. The top violations included: Food Protection Certificate not held by supervisor of food operations. (They need one for serving those wings dusted with 24-carat gold.)

On Friday, inspectors issued 102 violation points. The top there violations listed, per the public report:

1) Cold food item held above 41º F (smoked fish and reduced oxygen packaged foods above 38 ºF) except during necessary preparation.
2) Food not cooled by an approved method whereby the internal product temperature is reduced from 140º F to 70º F or less within 2 hours, and from 70º F to 41º F or less within 4 additional hours.
3) Food Protection Certificate not held by supervisor of food operations.

In February, the Ainsworth also covered up the DOH notice...

The Ainsworth, part of a growing chainlet of upscale sports bars, opened on Third Avenue at the end of December. Unrelated, the building — at 64 Third Ave. — was recently purchased by a Canadian investor.

The DOH temporarily closes the Ainsworth on 3rd Avenue

[Reader-submitted photo]

Several readers have noted that the Ainsworth East Village has been closed since last Wednesday... which coincided with a DOH inspection.

The Ainsworth, part of a growing chainlet of upscale sports bars, opened at the end of December on Third Avenue and 11th Street.

According to public records at the DOH, inspectors issued 86 violation points. The top violations included:

1) Food Protection Certificate not held by supervisor of food operations.
2) Food contact surface improperly constructed or located. Unacceptable material used.
3) Hand washing facility not provided in or near food preparation area and toilet room. Hot and cold running water at adequate pressure to enable cleanliness of employees not provided at facility. Soap and an acceptable hand-drying device not provided.

Per one reader: "They're trying to hide a yellow closure sticker by conveniently hanging a white sign over the sticker that the DOH placed on their door." (As seen in top photo.)

The Village Pourhouse closed at this location last April after 11 years in business.

The Ainsworth East Village debuts on 3rd Avenue

As previously reported here, the Ainsworth, the growing chain of upscale sports bars, is opening a location on Third Avenue and 11th Street.

The Ainsworth East Village (other new locations are coming to Nashville, Kansas City and Wall Street), is expected to open to the public this week. (They are apparently hosting a few private events.)

Jennifer Gould Keil has a preview at the Post yesterday:

The East Village location is 4,500 square feet and comes with 16 dining seats, 30 high top seats, and 25 seats in the bar area. It will feature cocktails like the Crooked Knife, a jalepeño-infused DeLeón tequila with lemon and agave; and the Ains Martini with Ketel One citroen, Aperol and citrus.

The Village Pourhouse closed here back in April after 11 years. The bar was expected to be E.Vil for a few Instagram moments.

The Ainsworth neon arrives on 3rd Avenue

The rather retro-y neon signage arrived on Third Avenue at 11th Street for The Ainsworth, the chainlet of upscale sports bars ...

Oh, and there's the Ainsworth awning on the 11th Street side...

No word on an opening date. But when they do throw open the doors, their hours will be:

Sunday-Wednesday: 11 a.m. - 1 a.m.
Thursday-Saturday: 11 a.m. - 2 a.m.

Pouring one out for the former Pourhouse!

Back on Wednesday, workers removed the Village Pourhouse neon signage on Third Avenue ... the sports bar closed in April after 10 years of hosting every neighborhood pub crawl...

Workers, for now, did leave some remnants of the Pourhouse on the 11th Street side...

In July, CB3 OK'd a new liquor license for the owners behind the Ainsworth, the upscale sports-bar chainlet with three NYC locations as well as one in Hoboken, N.J., and Las Vegas. No word on an opening date for the Ainsworth East Village.

And someone has kept the memory alive of the tenant that never was — E.Vil, the rock-and-roll bar with big plans and an active Instagram account.

An outpost of the Ainsworth vying for former Pourhouse space; E.Vil is not coming

The owners of the Ainsworth, an upscale sports bar with multiple NYC locations, is vying for the former Village Pourhouse space on Third Avenue at 11th Street.

Team Ainsworth (Matthew Shendell is the principal owner) will appear before CB3's SLA committee next Monday night.

According to the questionnaire on file at the CB3 website, the Ainsworth East Village is seeking hours of 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 3 a.m. Friday to Sunday.

The Ainsworth is also looking to license the sidewalk for outdoor seating. The application shows seven tables seating 14 people for the outside. (The Village Pourhouse also had a license for the sidewalk.)

And now, you may be wondering what happened to E.Vil, a rock-inspired bar expected to open here at 64 Third Ave. "where you go to hear Aerosmith, the Clash, Guns N’ Roses, Led Zeppelin, ’80s/’90s rock, the Cult," according to Page Six back on March 20.

E.Vil's Instagram once noted an April 17 opening date. The account, mostly iconic photos of everyone from David Bowie to Johnny Thunders to the Sex Pistols, hasn't been updated since early April. At one point, the account showed a June 1 opening date ...

Perhaps E.Vil will turn up elsewhere. In May, someone spray painted E.Vil on the side of the former Pourhouse...

The legend lives on.
