The creative process is an utter joy to watch. Filling a fire extinguisher with paint and spraying to destroy a work of art is not talent. It is sad and not only ruins the opportunity for countless artists, it ruins the opportunity for a neighborhood to live with glorious world-class art. The Houston Bowery wall could be just another advertising wall, but we’d prefer it to be a powerful beacon of the best of a movement. For now, we don’t wish to wipe away what’s been done, we are simply taking a break...

Checking in on the Bowery mural wall
How the mural wall is looking here this morning on Houston at the Bowery.
As previously noted, people had been tagging the motorcycle mural by David Flores, the last commissioned art for the space.
This prompted Jessica Goldman Srebnick, co-chair of Goldman Properties and curator of this wall, to issue a statement on Instagram in late May:
Since then, the motorcycle has been covered with layers of new tags.

A wrap at the Bowery Mural Wall
David Flores has wrapped up work at the Bowery Mural Wall after several days.
According to a description of the work, the mosaic-style mural depicts "a motorcyclist driving into the street spreading florals out the back of the bike. The goal of the piece is to bring an element of fun to the daily lives of the community."

David Flores next up for the Bowery Mural Wall
As noted on Sunday, workers recently buffed out the Bowery Mural Wall in anticipation of the next artist here at Houston.
David Flores will be starting work this week for Goldman Global Arts...
A California native, Flores got his start as a graphic designer for several skateboard companies... and, per this bio, "is best known for his self-proclaimed stained glass and mosaic style."
This video shows him working on a Bob Marley mural in Los Angeles back in 2019...
The previous work on the Bowery Mural Wall, titled "To Open a Portal," debuted in the fall of 2020.

Wall to wall
The completed new work at the Bowery Mural Wall... Here's more on it via photographer Martha Cooper, who has been documenting the wall work this past week:
A blast from the past. TATS CRU is honoring the history of the Houston Bowery wall by creating a mural based on a photo of one of the very first walls painted here and inviting 80s writers to collaborate. Crash, Daze, Zephyr & Dez are among the legends who have dropped by to add their names.
The work includes a tribute to Tony Goldman, real-estate developer and proprietor of the Bowery Mural Wall. He died in 2012 at age 68.

JR's 'Gun Chronicles' is no longer on the Bowery Mural Wall
Workers today removed the remaining sections of JR's "Gun Chronicles" at the Bowery Mural Wall, as this photo via EVG regular Lola Sāenz shows.
JR's mural featured images of 245 Americans who represent various viewpoints on the gun debate. The artist collaborated with Time magazine back in late October for this interactive special report on gun violence in America.
Someone added an 11 — representing the number of victims in the Pittsburgh synagogue massacre on Oct. 27 — in red paint... the 11 became a XII after 12 people were gunned down in Thousand Oaks, Calif., on Nov. 8.
In recent weeks JR's mural was started to peel, and the wall had been tagged multiple times. No one from the wall's landlord, Goldman Properties, decided to clean up the piece. As one EVG reader commented: "It is a shame of the condition this mural has fallen to. This was an important mural with an important message that should have been maintained and protected. Instead of being marked up with graffiti that has covered up important parts of the mural."
No word at the moment on what might be next for the wall.

JR's neglected 'Gun Chronicles' on the Bowery Mural Wall
JR's powerful "Gun Chronicles" mural at the Bowery Mural Wall is looking neglected, as these photos by Lola Sāenz show...
The panels are peeling ... and it has been tagged multiple times of late (not including the addition of the 11 and Xll)...

Another addition arrived over night at “The Gun Chronicles,” JR's mural featuring images of 245 Americans who represent various viewpoints on the gun debate.
On Oct. 28, someone added an 11 — for the victims in the Pittsburgh synagogue massacre — in red paint here on the Bowery mural wall.
And now an X was added to make the 11 a 12 — representing the number of people gunned down in Thousand Oaks, Calif., Wednesday night.

Intermission is over at the Bowery Mural Wall; JR brings 'The Gun Chronicles'
Tristan Eaton's Intermission tenure is up at the Bowery Mural Wall.
Workers yesterday painted over the mural, which arrived back in June.
